We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yahman Berry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Yahman, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?

Yes, I do at times. I wanted to start a clothing brand in high school but unfortunately, I didn’t have the resources or the motivation to do so. If I had started sooner I would most definitely be further than I am now

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I’m Yahman, from Jacksonville Fl, currently 23 years old, I currently live in California due to my current job as a united states marine. I started my clothing brand, due to me going thru financial hardship and family issues in 2021 and I uses my anger and depression to create Deep Pocket Mafia (DPM). it’s a clothing brand that is about building generational wealth through legal methods such as starting businesses, owning land, assets, and much more. In other words, making our pockets deep. As far as the mafia, we move as such, we network and build connections with others with the same interest which is making money the right way and making money work for us.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The reward is watching people enjoy my product, I can care less about the money, the fact that people are willing to purchase my product and wear it. I get excited about the feedback I get, doesn’t matter if it’s good or negative. the fact people take their time to acknowledge my brand and understand it motivates me.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

I wished knew about grants for small businesses, even though I never received a grant it would’ve been helpful for the start-up of DPM. I highly recommend researching grants in your state and seeing what they have to offer, that money will be a great push,you need to start your business and the best part about grants is you don’t need to pay the money back.
