We were lucky to catch up with Will Kimbrough recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Coffee Talk With Will is how my podcast started. Coffee Talk With Will is a reaction to videos platform. And it all started when I was sitting in my truck after a long day of selling my products one Saturday evening. I was scrolling through social media watching ridiculous videos and thinking to myself, that whoever created these silly videos just needed someone to give them honest feedback. But I was kind of afraid and nervous about responding to people’s videos not knowing how they would respond to my response. So I started doing motivational videos first, and then videos on what made me happy, sad, or mad. And after a few months of that, then the reaction videos came in. It didn’t take off right away, but after one silly video that I put up, then my numbers and followers started rising. Shortly after I was monetized and people started engaging in my content, and started sending videos asking me to do a reaction to the content they’re sending me. With more than 35,000 followers and subscribers across social media I then partnered with my best friend to create the podcast, Conversation & Coffee.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Well I’m the owner of 1st Group Products. We sell fragrance oils, car fresheners, perfumes, and hand sanitizers. And in sells you need marketing. And my podcast and reaction platform provides a platform for me to market my own brand. I create my own commercials for my products and attach them to the end of my videos and podcast. We’re able to direct people to our website after they have been entertained. To gain more support, subscribers, and followers, we started promoting other businesses as well. And when they see their commercial, they instantly share my whole content. So it’s been a great tool for me. The only challenges that I’ve faced so far is certain social media platforms flagging your material because it might have cross the line.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
The pandemic came through and my products business was launched. There wasn’t any hand sanitizers in any stores in my area. So I did some research on how to make some. After making my first batch I took it to social media clowning around with close friends. These close friends bought $300 worth of hand sanitizers, and that’s when the light bulb came on for me. Shortly after that my wife said that we was going to make more than just hand sanitizers. We start doing more research on different kinds of oils and candles. After selling a few candles, oils, sanitizers, and car fresheners, we started putting back a little money for capital. Well that little money wasn’t enough, so we started using the profits from our moving company which provided us the capital we needed to go fully with the products.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Some lessons in life and business is all about pivoting. An example we own a moving company. Now anyone that knows the moving business knows that it can be real good the first few months and then the rest of the year you’re scrambling. Where that’s when your pivot comes in. And that’s when we close those month gaps with our products business.
