We were lucky to catch up with Will Chitwood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Will, appreciate you joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents did a great job encouraging me to be an entrepreneur. They supported my interests and encouraged me to turn my hobby into a business. They also helped me buy my first DJ system and helped me with advice and support throughout my growth!
Will, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started DJing when I was 16 and eventually I started my business Dancing DJ Productions in 2001. I’ve always loved DJing and bringing special moments to people through music and energy! Over time I was fortunate to have great clients and vendors that helped spread and refer me which made me very busy. I started hiring DJ’s and eventually we grew to where we are today as the biggest DJ company in San Diego with 30 DJs! I’m very proud of my team and love being able to create lots of wonderful memories for our clients every weekend!
Any advice for managing a team?
I feel that a key thing to managing a team is showing you care about the team members! Talking to them about things other than work and connecting with them on a personal level goes a long way.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’ve always really cared about making sure we’re always doing a fantastic job for every event. I really care about quality and having a great team of talented DJs. I think that’s really helped us grow and keep a great reputation!
