Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Walter Rucker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Walter, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
Go and find a small business association company that mentors the development of small business. Get with a mentor and ask questions, even the ones you think that are not ideal to your liking. Never give up or yourself when facing obstacles. Save, just as simple as it sound save. Never rush into anything without research. Talk to different people within the industry to broaden your information.

Walter, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Started looking into real estate 15 years before actually getting involved heavily like I have done these past few years. I would attend countless seminars and different real estate events (also always take notes). Read books on the matter. Actually one of my mentors and great friends till this day I met at a event. My mentor was within the industry for 20 years so with their helping hand I started to get hands on knowledge. Which push me farther into the industry. I’m developing a book on how to get started in real estate within the next coming months.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
That you don’t need capital to get into this industry? Truth being told from my standpoint, there are some programs you can get into, not having to put any funds down when getting into real estate. But it is always best to have funds ready any case of a emergency. Example a new HVAC system replacement can cause literality thousands of dollars to be install.

Any advice for managing a team?
To be honest and be yourself. Treat anyone and everyone with common courtesy and respect. Look for ways to improve company morale by asking your staff what thing the company can improve to better their experience while working there.
