Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vincent Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Vincent thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned my craft as a colorist through a combination of formal education and hands-on experience in the film and television industry. My journey began as a cinematographer, where I developed a strong understanding of light, shadow, and color theory—skills that became the foundation of my work in color grading. When I first ventured into post production I trained as a Telecine operator which, these days, is an old fashioned term for a colorist. Back then we were still lacing up film on a telecine machine which allowed us to color grade directly from the film out onto tape. Over the years, I immersed myself in learning and mastering tools like DaVinci Resolve and Baselight, experimenting with how colors can shape emotions and enhance storytelling.
Collaborating with directors and cinematographers on various projects, from indie films to high-end commercials, has been instrumental in my growth. By studying the visual language of cinema and keeping up with advancements in technology, I’ve refined my ability to enhance a story through color. This blend of technical expertise and creative intuition has allowed me to craft visually compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. I have been doing this for over 20 years and I still love it!

Vincent, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the post-production industry through my passion for storytelling and visuals, starting my career as a cinematographer. My fascination with the interplay of light, color, and emotion naturally led me to color grading, where I discovered a unique way to shape narratives. Over time, I transitioned into post-production, drawn by the opportunity to help filmmakers and brands elevate their visuals to the highest standard. Today, I specialize in providing color grading services for films, commercials, and music videos, focusing on creating stunning visuals that resonate with audiences and bring my clients’ creative visions to life.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my ability to connect with the emotional core of each project. I take pride in solving challenges for my clients, whether it’s enhancing the mood of a film scene or ensuring a brand’s campaign stands out in a competitive market. My work is more than just technical—it’s about understanding and amplifying the story being told. One of my proudest achievements is collaborating on projects that have been recognized for their visual impact. I want potential clients and followers to know that I’m deeply committed to quality, creativity, and delivering work that not only meets expectations but exceeds them. My brand is built on trust, innovation, and a passion for crafting visuals that leave a lasting impression.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In the last couple of years in Hollywood, and around the world to be honest, the film and television industry has been a very challenging place due to the financial climate, streaming and of course the extremely long strikes that slammed the brakes on production and post production in the film industry. There just wasn’t any work, or very little work. I needed to pivot for a little while so I stepped back into my photography background. I opened a company called Chuckle Media which specialized in portrait, family and event photography. I was able to utilize my background in photography and cinematography combined with my color and filmmaking skills to offer a unique approach to photography. My goal was, quite simply, to capture peoples stories – there are so many amazing stories out there! The film and television industry is showing signs of grinding back to life, although it is still slow, so at the moment I am doing a little bit of photography and a little bit of film & television color grading.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my social media audience by consistently sharing my passion for color grading and expertise in visual storytelling. I honestly just focused on showcasing my work and sometimes offering behind-the-scenes insights and also sharing tips that (hopefully) resonate with both aspiring filmmakers and seasoned industry professionals.
By using platforms, such as Instagram, I shared visually compelling content, including before-and-after grading examples, mood boards, and breakdowns of my creative process which were all tailored to engage my target audience. It was also important to engage with my followers by responding to comments, participating in discussions, and collaborating with other creators further helped to grow his presence organically.
For those starting to build a social media presence, my advice is to stay authentic and consistent. Share work that truly represents your style and passion, and don’t be afraid to showcase your process or experiment with new formats. Interact with your audience by answering questions, providing value through educational posts, and celebrating milestones with them. Most importantly – by far – is to focus on quality over quantity, each post should reflect your brand and add something meaningful to your online presence. Building an audience takes time, but staying authentic and committed to your craft will attract the right followers.
