We were lucky to catch up with Vince Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vince , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I started mainly as a way of entertaining my bed ill mother. She became my biggest critic but also my biggest fan. I never had access to books growing up due my religious father. I had to learn watching David Blaine on VHS and YouTube.
Now I have the access and direction to expand my knowledge on magic.
Being online definitely helps.
I remember older magicians used to judge my passion due to lack of history knowledge.
I often made my own approach to certain moves and sleights.
Vince , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Greetings All,
If you are a pre-existing supporter, welcome back and thank you for your constant support.
If you are unaware to who I am or what I do, allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Vince Williams and I am a Touring Magician, Freakshow Artist and business owner from San Antonio TX.
I’ve been performing for well over 23 years and owning my brand, for 6 years.
I started performing at the young age of 6 and I never stopped ever since.
I owe my dedication and start in magic to my mother whilst she was bed ill for majority of my childhood, I would perform small magic acts to try to distract her from the pain she often felt.
She was my biggest fan and my harshest critic but without that balance, I wouldn’t have the dedication and skill I own today.
I started small; doing every and any gig I can get myself involved in for small financial gain or simply to just get my name out there.
It was tough, in the small town I grew up in but I took advantage by expanding my knowledge of magic.
As I grew, so did my experience for performing and for networking myself.
I moved from my small town and ended up
meeting my mentor. He took me under his wing and paved the professional way for me later on in my career. He taught me how to adapt my street show to a stage performance.
I utilized what he taught me and left my small town in hopes of better opportunity.
I now do shows all over south Texas and surrounding areas.
My hometown is San Antonio TX currently.
I am known locally for performing for various musicians and artists for my social media accounts.
Mixing both Magic and Shock elements of Sideshow,
I garnished a unique approach to how we view magic today.
It’s been a wild painful journey and it’s only just begun.
I’ve had to learn the In’s and out’s of owning a small business all while maintaining a level of entertainment along the way.
I offer personal performances for gigs, corporate events, as well as conventions.
I also sell exclusive “Vince Williams Magic” brand merchandise for all those interested in supporting my craft even further.
Despite all the hardships along the way, I’ve managed to conjure up a community filled with supporters and like minded individuals who have showed me nothing but love and support.
The ones I meet along the way makes the journey worth every stress.
The positive messages I have received from simply performing and being myself has been such a rewarding feeling.
Thank you to all those who took the time to read the quick and easy run down of my journey as Magician Vince Williams.
And I hope to see you all soon. Much love, be well and be blessed.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Of course, knowledge is infinite, with that being said, I was unfortunately very limited in my access to magic. I had to teach myself majority of the sleights and secrets to magic tricks.
I regret not having the time or resources because now as a Semi-Pro Magician, there are tons of technical terms, I am unaware to due to my lack of book smarts.
I’m in the process now, later in my years, of purchasing books, live lectures and online tutorials to expand my magic knowledge.
I do however, appreciate the large growth of the Internet because it made obtaining the information so much easier than how it used to be.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, my family. My daughter.
She has been the inspiration for my brand expanding in the way that it is.
She made me realize that there are so many ways to be successful, not just being a performer and doing shows.
She is my drive to strive forward and continue to push my brand.
I want to be the living embodiment of “as long as you put your mind and soul into your passion, anything is possible”
