We were lucky to catch up with Victoria Mclean-Callaway recently and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
It has been a wonderful experience to ask my friends and family to support my red velvet cake line that includes candles, room sprays and carpet freshener . I have so much support from family and I am very grateful for that they also told there friends about my line and I have received orders that way as well.A lot my friends have been repeat customers and they absolutely love the red velvet cake candle ,room spray and carpet freshener they love the smell.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Vicky’s Red Velvet Cake candle the candle is named after me, and I love red velvet cake, so it just made sense to make my favorite dessert into a candle. So my husband and I came up with the name of the candle. It smells just like red velvet cake while it’s cooking in the oven and when it’s served. I also have added room sprays and carpet freshener to my line ,all in red velvet cake scent all my customers love the candle and can’t get enough of it .I’m doing what I dreamed about being an entrepreneur and I love it. I also wanted to be example for my daughters to let them know that they can achieve anything in life if they put God 1st.Also to teach them to always work hard to accomplish their dreams and goals and never ever give up . I say this because just because something doesn’t work the first time doesn’t mean it want work at all. Keep praying and trying every day and you will succeed.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the challenges I have faced is trying to be a mother, a wife and an entrepreneur all once can be very hard. The late nights and the endless orders can be very demanding.Another obstacle with my candle line I have faced is making sure the quality of my products is good and durable for my customers also meeting my monthly goals and sales.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clients has been social media and word of month from past customers.Instagram is the main page I use with social media platform.
