We were lucky to catch up with Victoria Griffin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
When it comes to friends and family supporting your business it’s almost a necessity. As a new business owner it’s hard to start from scratch with zero clients and fresh eyes for industry that is very competitive. The best way to start out I believe is word of mouth and that starts with the people that have supported you through a lengthy process. Far as me, my family always supports my endeavors I just completed 14 months of cosmetology school where you pretty much have to sacrifice a lot to get through this program. I wound up getting pregnant and didn’t know how far I would go since there is no such thing as maternity leave. This wasn’t my first rodeo far as being pregnant and a mother so I already knew what to expect and adapted a plan. I wound up being the only one out of three other pregnant women to complete the program from start to end. I am highly thankful for the process and the grind to finally be at the finish line.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A little about myself I’m a 34-year-old woman, whose also a mom and a wife. I have been braiding hair since I was at least in third grade. A childhood friend of mine who I lived near taught me how to braid cornrows, and I never stopped ever since. Once I got a little older into my teenage years, I taught myself how to add in braiding extensions also known as weave and have always been an independent and very fast learner. How I got to enroll in school for cosmetology is long story short experiencing my first job layoff. That’s when I knew I was ready to work for myself and be a business owner. My goal for not just myself but for my clients will be to provide them with a atmosphere that is therapeutic and is in the salon’s name itself Kings and queens where when you’re tired of a long week of work and just want to feel pampered relaxed appreciated want to feel like royalty a boss a king or Queen that’s where I come into providing services to make you feel top notch.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth has definitely been the most successful way of gaining new clientele.
My support system family friends always make sure they share my digital content on their pages or even mention my name when asked to has done your hair?

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Considering I just finished a 14-month program where I didn’t know that I would finish due to being pregnant and there’s no room for error I made an a mission to complete cosmetology school that way I can provide a lucrative service to people who just want to feel beautiful or appreciated when it comes to my clients I will always put my all into my work.
