We were lucky to catch up with Vee Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vee, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
It takes hard work, sleepless nights, lots of sacrifice’s, consistency and dedication. I had a ton of no’s before I had one yes so many doors closed on me too many failures but I kept going there were times I wanted to throw the towel in but I had to speak to myself in third person lots of times like Vee you got this keep going you didn’t come this far just to come this far and don’t look for nobody else to believe in you the belief starts with you never seek validation and that was my problem seeking for family, friends to believe in me once I started believing in myself I stop looking for that light at the end of the tunnel and lit that bad boy myself.
Vee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Of course well I take after my amazing mother Lula Davis Toliver she was my dad legendary blue singer Geater Davis designer And she was very fashionable herself After my dad passed she took the interior design and has designed for some of the greats such as TD Jakes, Deion Sanders, Emmitt Smith the list goes on and on.
I definitely take after my mom that’s how I came to love fashion so much watching her As years pass and I grew into my own person I started my business TheEnV Brand-
The EnV Brand is designed to help individuals define their own unique image/style and re-create their looks by streamlining, supplementing and styling their wardrobe. I truly enjoy helping empower my clients with the self-confidence that comes with a new look, an individual style, and an enhanced, organized, stylish, refreshed wardrobe. It’s my passion and that’s what sets me apart from the rest. Now proud moment Fast Forward in 2021 I decided to respond to a casting email and to make a long story short I’m now one of the main cast members on Extreme Sisters airing on the TLC Network this summer I’m so blessed and it’s humbling to be in this position I just hope I reach heights to come back and help/support my city and my community. It took 15yrs to get here never give up.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Oh wow yes ok well In 2013 I was getting my business off the ground I was so stressed out going to networking events almost everyday of the week getting my name out there Photoshoots every weekend I was in full beast mode well I didn’t listen to my body and I should have well on January 21, 2014 I suffered a stress related heart attack and it changed my life I’m very in tuned with my body and I should’ve listened to it but I didn’t and there were consequences behind that but it was a hard lesson learned and I snapped back quickly and back to work I went BUT with a new thought process now I don’t allow things to stress me out I’m more focused on my mental health, my overall health and my self-awareness. I don’t let anyone or anything disturb my peace I make sure I take the necessary time out for Vee I’m now stronger than ever I maintain perspective and it was a part of my journey and it’s my testimony.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that everyone doesn’t want your best interest at heart Not like yourself I was genuinely building relationships, putting people in winning positions and being taken advantage of and I knew this but I turned the other cheek I had to unlearn to stop being so giving and stop pouring into empty cups.
