We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vanessa Lipschutz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vanessa below.
Hi Vanessa, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I have over 8 years of experience in business operations, project management, and optimizing systems to make things run smoothly. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across departments, led complex projects, and partnered with people at every level of business. Along the way, I noticed something: while it’s natural to keep our personal and professional worlds separate, they’re deeply connected. Ignoring where they intersect often leads to stalled progress. This realization sparked an idea—what if we could take a holistic view of both sides to unlock real momentum?
As a fractional Chief of Staff for vision and operations, I work alongside you. Together, we take a step back to look at the full picture—teasing out your goals, pain points, and blockers—so we can align your action items with your bigger vision. From there, we optimize systems, streamline processes, and create a clear path forward.
Once I had the idea, my first step was testing it out. I knew I didn’t need everything to be perfect—I just needed to start with a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). For me, that meant offering a clear structure: analyzing my clients’ challenges, identifying what wasn’t working, and designing individualized solutions to fix it. I started with smaller projects to see what resonated and refine my approach.
From these smaller projects, one of the most important lessons I learned early on is that the issues people see on the surface—like feeling stuck or overwhelmed—are often symptoms of deeper inefficiencies. By focusing on root causes, I could help clients make real, lasting progress. This process of testing my ideas helped me gain clarity about what I was offering and how it was truly valuable.
When sharing The Vision Pursuit, I needed to clearly articulate what I do, why it matters, and how it works. I reached out to my network, shared my ideas, and gathered feedback. Those conversations helped me refine my messaging and gave me the confidence to move forward.
Next came the logistics: setting up my systems, deciding on pricing, and putting a framework in place to keep everything running smoothly. I made sure to keep things simple so I could focus on delivering value and improving over time.
Of course, there were challenges. At first, I was juggling everything—strategy, marketing, and operations—all on my own. But I learned to simplify, prioritize, trust the process and have a bias for action. Seeking feedback and collaborating with others brought fresh energy and helped me fine-tune my approach.
The most rewarding part of this journey has been seeing my clients’ “aha” moments—their spark of clarity when something clicks and they realize they can move forward. Watching them push through challenges, feel re-energized, and take meaningful steps toward their vision is incredibly fulfilling. That’s the heart of The Vision Pursuit: creating meaningful systems, cutting through the chaos, and helping people turn their goals into action.

Vanessa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up on the West Coast, with a one-year stint in New York City to test out the other coast and gain a different experience. Ultimately, I decided to settle in Los Angeles and Orange County, CA, because the West Coast feels like home—and it’s a melting pot of people and industries, full of opportunities to connect, collaborate, and create. That diversity and energy inspire the work I do every day.
I’ve always been fascinated by understanding why people do what they do—it’s what led me to major in marketing. For me, marketing wasn’t just about selling something; it was about understanding people, what motivates them, and how to communicate in a way that truly connects. That curiosity shaped how I approach everything I do and became the foundation for my career.
Over the years, I’ve worked as a senior executive assistant, Business Operations Manager, co-founder, and now a fractional Chief of Staff. In each of these roles, I’ve partnered with CEOs and teams to streamline operations, drive meaningful results, and create alignment between actions and goals. My secret to success in these roles has been understanding the stakeholders’ objectives and the values behind why they chose them. When you begin to understand why people do what they do, you gain insight into how to communicate effectively with them. And when communication is effective, meaningful action follows.
The Vision Pursuit is my passion in business form. I specialize in Vision and Operations, supporting clients who feel like they’re constantly juggling. Together, we step back, assess what’s working and what’s not, and create personalized strategies to align their actions with their goals—all while keeping them fueled by their “why.”
What sets me apart is my holistic approach. I focus on both the personal and professional aspects of my clients’ goals because they’re deeply connected. I’m not here to manage or report to my clients—I’m here to fully support their vision and help them turn it into reality. We create a space to speak their truths, connect with their vision, and build something authentically theirs. It’s not just about where they’re going—it’s about enjoying the pursuit.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth and complimentary consultations have been game-changers for me. I have a saying: “Everything comes down to people.” You can have a massive social media following, a strong CRM pipeline, or even a successful investment round—but all of that is just a form of people actively choosing to direct their energy toward your business.
I focus on authenticity—laying my cards on the table, connecting with clients from a place of honesty and shared understanding, and growing relationships from there. Word of mouth carries the most weight, but complimentary consultations are equally important. They give us a chance to truly get to know each other and identify where we can make immediate impacts, quick wins!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The book, Crucial Conversations has had a profound impact on my management and entrepreneurial thinking. As I’ve mentioned before, I believe language is powerful—you can truly speak things into existence. But it’s not just about the language you use with yourself; it’s also about how you communicate with others.
This book was pivotal because it gave me practical tools for navigating high-stakes conversations, which are a big part of my work. The biggest takeaway for me was the importance of speaking with my objective in mind. Before going into a conversation, I now ask myself: “What do I want the outcome of this conversation to be? What is my objective?” That clarity allows me to communicate effectively, stay focused, and create meaningful results, even in challenging situations.
