We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Uncommon People. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Uncommon below.
Hi Uncommon , thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project we’ve worked on thus far is this band, Uncommon People. Having all had our solo journeys prior to meeting each other, there were already individuals relationships with music. With this comes different taste, textures, habits and visions of what encompasses a musician lifestyle. However, in the recent years we’ve been able to align our ideas and expectations. Though not an easy feat, we aim to always embody true collaboration; sacrificing ego and full of imagination. In forming this group, we have all started to look at ourselves as not only musicians but artists; simply creating and documenting our emotions and experience.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
We are Uncommon People, an indie alt-soul band based in Austin, TX created from the minds of TT on the Keys, Devin Ray, Muzeke, Eliseo, and Dan. Our music is mainly an eclectic mix of R&B, Pop & Rock. We released our debut single “Feel Something” in 2020 and followed it up with EPs like “Motion” in 2021 and “Bella” (V-day EP) & “Royalty” in 2022, respectively. Gearing up for new releases our first full project net month, we just dropped our single “Knock” out on all streaming platforms. The music video is also now on YouTube.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Having met in 2019, once the pandemic hit we were all subjected to staying at home. This was a pivotal moment in our lives and especially the band as we had been performing for a few months prior, gaining traction. Through it all, we still managed to create music and video content from home. Thanks to all the editing softwares; we owe you! The biggest triumph, however, is that we managed to still keep the band going having just started. We made sure to FaceTime, Skype, Google Meet or whatever video service we could to remain in contact and have good communication. After things opened up, we were able to come back stronger than ever.
How did you build your audience on social media?
We use social media as more of a place to document moments and experiences that we want to share with all of our friends and fellow uncommon people. Like music videos, behind the scenes photos, and flyers to upcoming shows. In doing so, we’ve managed to grow an authentic fan base. Hoping to gain a bigger audience in the future, we will continue to give fans a closer look into our music, personas, and individual lifestyles.
