We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ulysses Gutierrez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ulysses thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
From a young age I always knew I wanted to be involved in music because I enjoyed it so much. I would carry around Michael Jackson records so people could play them for me and I could dance. As I got older I discovered that I could actually sing and began pursuing singing my own songs and writing my own songs as well as a teenager.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I really began working my way into the music as a 17-year-old. At that point I realized that I really wanted to move forward with music and I began recording the songs that I had written. After graduating high school I continued working on my music and eventually went to music school in New York City for music business and Music engineering.
While in Music school and after graduating music school I got a chance to experience working with a couple of different record labels and radio stations and I stared to learn the ins and outs of the music business and I applied myself to learning more on my own as well as through my experiences.
I am a Latin urban music artist currently based in Florida. I am on a journey to bring an evolved sound, energy, and mindset to the Latin urban genre and creatives.
I really feel that what sets me apart from the other artists in the Latin Urban genre is my thought process when writing songs. I always strive to evolve my vocabulary so as to speak as differently as possible but still deliver my message clearly to my audience and the masses. I also feel that my beat/musical selections differ from other artists as well. All of these things Contribute to create my very own style of Latin urban music.
I am very proud of what I have accomplished so far and of how far I have come with my music. There is still lots more work to do and I look forward to putting my all into everything that I do with my music career. I greatly appreciate all of my supporters and I look forward to bringing them my newest musical creations as I prepare to release my new LP “En Las Nubes” On Black Friday 2022!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of the missions of my musically creative journey is to inspire other musical creatives and people in general to think outside of the box.
The best way to do that is to lead by example. Work hard to make sure you continuously evolve, no matter what it is you do, because actions speak louder than words.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, for me, is the fact that I get to create music for people to enjoy and dance to. Music is an opportunity to escape the daily grind and the troubles we face in our lives so it is a great feeling to know that I can create a fun experience for the world through my music!
