We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Sawyer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Tyler, appreciate you joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
One of the most special parts of being a health coach is watching the transformation clients make – not just in their weight and health, but in their mindsets and confidence.
While I have many clients that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this happen for, one in particular continues to inspire me! She’s lost over 50 pounds, but through that journey, she has found so much. She’s found confidence in her ability to navigate the ups and downs (of life, her health, and the scale). She’s found an ease in walking through the world – both physically and emotionally. She’s found peace with food and in her relationship (which would be impacted by sugar consumption and feeling generally unwell). She’s found community in fitness classes. She’s found strength and mobility with weight loss and exercise. And what really warmed my heart: she’s found inspiration and has chosen to share her story with a blog.
Health coaching absolutely fills my soul and I feel incredibly grateful to help people change their lives.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sure! My undergraduate degree is in psychology. And during college, I really got into nutrition and fitness (personally, and as a Health & Wellness Educator on campus). After I graduated, I realized how passionate I was about it. So, I decided to pursue a graduate degree in Nutrition and Human Performance. After that, I taught Nutrition & Psychology at a local college, worked at a medical weight loss clinic, and eventually moved into health coaching. I became a Nationally Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach a few years ago and in 2024 I finally took the plunge to dive into Fit Fierce & Female full-time!
Fit Fierce & Female was created by Stephanie and me to support women in achieving their healthy lifestyle goals. We want to empower women to create and foster health for themselves without the diet mentality nonsense. We help women cut through the noise and figure out what works for them and their lives. That’s the benefit of a 1:1 coach — we talk about YOU and how to make changes in your life because your life is different than the person next to you. You are unique with your own routines, challenges, and motivations; we tap into that to create sustainable change.
We use our three pillars of Nutrition, Fitness, and Wellness to ensure we address your full picture of health. We also provide free content on social media and our blog. And we have an Etsy shop, because who wouldn’t want “Fit Fierce & Female” on a shirt or a hat?!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Being knowledgeable and having the background that we do is so incredibly important. Having a health coach that is certified and well-trained should not be ignored. But beyond that, you want a health coach with empathy and compassion. Someone who doesn’t belittle you. Someone who understands that your challenges, whether big or small, have an impact. But also someone who celebrates with you! Someone who can point out the wins even when you don’t see them. Someone who truly wants to see you succeed and grow. The trust and safety created between a good coach and their client is game-changing!
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Stephanie and I met while working as health coaches at the same company, and we became instant friends! You know when someone just has the right vibe? Yep — we just knew we vibed. Plus, we both loved working from home, loved our doggos, and are girls’ girls.
After a few months, Stephanie came to me and told me she had a little brainchild of a blog that she wanted to grow – Fit Fierce & Female. I thought, why the heck not?! Let’s see what we can do. We built out the website and started posting. By no means did it “take off,” but Stephanie always believed it could be something bigger. And her belief in it rubbed off on me. I’m forever grateful for her confidence in it and me and us!
