We recently connected with Tyler Mose and have shared our conversation below.
Tyler, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
The biggest challenge in the video production and animation space to profitability is keeping your margins at a profitable level. AI is bearing down on our industry from a content creation and post production front. We are being forced to reframe and focus on different offerings and new business lines.

Tyler, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started in the video production space in college at Purdue University. I interned for ESPN doing game day production work. I did anything from running to assisting in the production van and on the sidelines. I then moved into ad sales for careerbuilder.com. We produced a lot of recruitment media and tv ads for clients for recruitment efforts. I was one of the top sales reps quarter after quarter during my time there. I then pivoted and started a video production agency in 2010. I have been in the space since then and working with a variety of corporate clientele to produce video, animation, and illustration content. The content developed has consisted of sales, marketing, advertising, branding, recruiting, training, and conference content.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When we first started we were six months into the business and had hit a wall. We were doing very low margin projects and the sales pipeline was very meager. I was thinking about quitting and going back to corporate work. I read in a book a sentence that said: “If not now, never.” It really hit me because I just thought to myself what am I going to do? Give up and walk back into corporate with my tail between my legs? At that point I decided I am going to get this done and make this company work. And I did. It was tough. Sending cold emails through the night, working on proposals through the night. Whatever it took. We broke through and things started clicking.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
We’re currently pivoting our business as we speak. We are shifting to producing large datasets of video, audio, and photo content for large data sets and AI training modules. It is a new space, but this is what is happening in todays market. The cost and time it takes to produce video content is going down. Which means it is driving the cost down. This is a new frontier and one that is going to continue to evolve, but is 1000% needed for AI and machine learning.
