It was a regular weekday at the quaint brunch spot in Fort Worth where I worked as a waiter. One morning, a woman walked in with her friend, and as I approached their table, my courage and optimism pushed me to share my passion for design and my journey through interior design school. Intrigued by my enthusiasm, she listened intently as I, Tyler Garrett, described my aspirations and dreams.

Feeling a connection, I scribbled down my business email, Garrett Interiors, on a cocktail napkin, hoping she might be interested in my services. Little did I know, that simple gesture would change the course of my career. A few days later, I received an email from her expressing interest in hiring me for a design project. Overjoyed and grateful for the opportunity, I eagerly accepted.

From that moment on, our relationship blossomed into a fruitful collaboration. She appreciated Garrett Interiors’ colorful and whimsical approach to design, and we worked together seamlessly to transform her living room and home office into vibrant, personalized spaces that reflected her personality and style.

For the past three years, I’ve nurtured my social media platforms, cultivating an authentic presence that reflects both my business and myself. Through genuine content and a commitment to being true to who I am, I’ve garnered significant traction and growth. My advice? Stay true to yourself and don’t overthink it. Let your content be a reflection of your authenticity, both as a business and as a person.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities social media has provided, as each client and inquiry has come directly from platforms like Instagram. It’s a testament to the power of authenticity in connecting with others, and I’m thankful to be living in an era where we can leverage these platforms to elevate our businesses to new heights.

When I first entered the design industry, I encountered numerous setbacks. Fresh out of college with limited experience, I faced rejection at every turn. Despite the constant stream of “no’s,” my determination and lofty ambitions propelled me forward.

Each design firm I applied to turned me away due to my lack of experience. Undeterred, I leaned into my talent and creativity. One pivotal moment came when I showcased a mood board I created for my final college project, incorporating chairs from Crate & Barrel. Posting it on LinkedIn proved to be my small foot in the door.

From that humble beginning, the trajectory of my career changed. That single post opened doors and paved the way for opportunities I never imagined. It taught me the invaluable lesson that persistence, coupled with leveraging one’s strengths, can lead to remarkable outcomes. Today, I stand as a testament to the power of perseverance and the ability to turn setbacks into stepping stones towards success.
