We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tristan Cummings. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tristan below.
Tristan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Yes I am happy as a business owner. I haven’t given much thought on what it would be like if I had a regular job. With that being said being a business owner is alot to take on but I wouldn’t trade anything for it because it is something that I have wanted to do growing up. I always told myself that I had wanted to be in computers or run my own business. When it came to a owning a business I never really knew what I wanted to do until about 2012. Once I started the business in 2014 and it got going I never looked back at going to a regular job. Being a business owner you appreciate alot more than just having a regular job. I say that because as a owner you are putting all your effort into wanting your company to be successful.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For me I was always in the industry because I played baseball my whole life. So when I realized that my opportunity at a professional career was over I went to work a regular job. I got back into when I just wanted to continue playing and so I had found a mens baseball league in Dallas. Went to the tryout that was being held at the time and one of the teams ended up picking me up. From there is where I meet a guy that was running select baseball teams. So when he asked if I wanted to coach I said yes. At first I didn’t think I would like it but once I got involved I enjoyed giving back to youth kids. From there is when everything started to take off for me.
My organization offers baseball and softball opportunities. The one thing that I think were we separate ourselves is through the development side of things when it comes to baseball and softball. We practice at least 3 times a week during season. We make sure that we focus on player development. Player development is one of the biggest issues in sports today. So I personally feel that is where we separate ourselves.
The thing I am most proud of is how far the organization has come. Started out with 3 teams and now we are up to 8 teams in Tx and 4 teams in Oklahoma. The numbers keep climbing. We get alot of players through word of mouth. When players come tryout they are always impressed on how things are structured.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Word of mouth has been what has helped so much.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Most effective strategy once again has been word of mouth. I’ve worked with several clients and the amount of improvement they see in there childs development.
