We were lucky to catch up with Tory Scroggins recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tory, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

My mission is to encourage diversity and individuality through self expression.

Tory, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I have been an actor for a couple of decades now and this is my first year as a business owner. The marketing skills that I have developed as an actor have helped me tremendously with my nail polish business. What separates me from other nail polish companies is the fact that my brand is gender less. It is made for anyone who likes to express themselves through colors. We also hope to encourage people to stop limiting themselves in the way they show up in the world. Non conformity.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

There have been a couple of points throughout my life and career where I’ve had to pivot. It was about recognizing my own evolution and adjusting accordingly. I started out as a makeup artist and at a certain point that didn’t feel fulfilling to me anymore as a career but the experience gave me the courage to pursue a career as an actor. But an actor only works so much and has limited control over the direction of their career and I always found it was important to have other creative outlets to keep me stimulated and occupied. Creating nail polish content became one of those things for me. And that ultimately led to creating actual nail polish. I learned early on to listen to where my passion lies and to move in that direction.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.

I do manufacture my own product. I create the colors, make the polish and bottle and label it myself. My initial thought was to work with a private label company but I knew that I wanted a brand that was unique to me and could be distinguished and identifiable.
