We recently connected with Tonia Walker-Singleton and have shared our conversation below.
Tonia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for this ministry was rooted in my early life, long before I understood the formal concept of nonprofits. Growing up, I witnessed and heard about the traumatic experiences of children my age and others—suffering from mental, physical, and verbal abuse—without fully understanding what it was called. Despite my youth and lack of power, I prayed for guidance on how to help others see their inherent worth and value.
As I matured, I became deeply involved in my church’s youth ministry, building relationships with teenagers and young adults who often struggled to find their voice and self-esteem. Through this work, I aimed to empower them to recognize their inner strength and beauty, encouraging them to rise above negative opinions from others.
While providing a space for youth empowerment wasn’t new, I saw a real need within my community for such support. In response, I founded Beauty of a Woman Ministry Inc. in 2008, focusing on empowering young girls and women with the skills to recognize their self-worth and develop resilience.

Tonia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Tonia Walker-Singleton, a wife, mother, believer in Jesus Christ, Ordained Evangelist, and self-publish author. I am a Florida native and dedicated community servant, with over 30 years of experience as a customer service representative and a strong commitment to my faith and local nonprofits in Tampa Bay. I earned my Associate Degree in Office Management Technology in 2006 and a Certificate in Business Administration in 2008 from Hillsborough Community College.
As an Ordained Evangelist and self-published author of two books—Transforming Into God’s Beauty Butterfly and My Identity Crisis—my work aims to uplift and empower others through faith and personal transformation.
As I stated before, growing up, I witnessed and heard about the traumatic experiences of children my age and others—suffering from mental, physical, and verbal abuse—without fully understanding what it was called. Despite my youth and lack of power, I prayed for guidance on how to help others see their inherent worth and value. While the need to have a program or organization wasn’t new, there was a need within my community to assist those who look like me and could benefit from an organization rooted in values that promote healing, support and empowerment for children and families who have experienced trauma.
My passion for service and kindness continue with providing school supplies for my nieces and nephews, which inspired another reason for me to establish the Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc., a nonprofit organization formed in 2008 and incorporated in 2012. I believe what distinguishes Beauty of a Woman Ministry Inc. from other ministries is our sincere love for people, regardless of their background or experiences. While I may not always agree with everything an individual does, I recognize that love is the essential bond that unites us despite our differences in background, economic, and social status. Our primary aim is to reflect Jesus Christ in all we do, and that begins with love.
What I cherish most is waking up each day with another chance to make a difference in someone’s life—helping them see their worth and the strength they hold. Over time, I’ve come to understand that serving others in this way brings me true joy, because at any moment, I could find myself in their shoes.
Another achievement I am especially proud of is my ability to write grants. My first grant application successfully secured $3,000, which was used to support under-resourced families by providing school supplies and personal hygiene items.
When people hear Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc. I want to them to know we are an organization dedicated to empowering young girls and women by helping them discover their true identity and inner strength. Despite our small size, the ministry’s impact on the community is profound, serving as a beacon of hope through free programs such as educational resources, mentorship, financial workshops for teens, wealth and wisdom workshops for adults, empowerment groups, spiritual counseling, and annual events like conferences, retreats, and the back-to-school supply giveaway. Our mission centers on transforming lives and fostering self-sufficiency, making a meaningful difference in the lives of many.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
First and foremost, our primary commitment is to Jesus Christ, guiding us to serve our clients with love, humility, and integrity in everything we do. Also, Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc. has built a strong reputation in the community through consistent transparency, accountability, and genuine engagement with community needs. Our commitment to ethical practices and impactful programs has fostered trust, while open communication and participation in community events, community leaders, along with showcasing success stories, have further enhanced our credibility and strengthened relationships.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc. effectively built a strong social media presence by creating authentic content that resonates with young women in their community, churches, and social gatherings. We fostered engagement through regular comments and messages, utilized storytelling to highlight our impact, and incorporated live videos to connect more personally. Strategic use of hashtags, collaborations with influencers and partner organizations, and targeted events further boosted visibility. By sharing real stories of their positive influence, we gained trust and loyalty, encouraging more followers to support and share their mission.
My advice to organizations that are just starting to share content is to stay consistent and persistent, even when progress seems slow or things aren’t going as planned. Keep pushing forward, and things will improve over time.
