Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tommy Knøs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tommy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning the craft of music
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well i got in to music early on in my life, not playing but just listening. I remember my mon dancing and singing along to Dr. Hook – ABBA- Smokie and such music.
My mon and Dad was divorce, so when Dad picked me and my brother up for the weekend,
we listened to Roy Orbison – Creedence Clearwater Revival – Danish acts such as Kandis
and Henning Stærk and a lot of compilation Country trucker tapes / cds you could buy at gas stations on the road. Yes my Dad was a truck driver and a mechanic too.
And my stepdad Worked at a cow farm at that time, he didn’t really listen to music, but he likes The Beatlse.
Movies and my brother got me deep in to music, i always liked cowboys movies. But i remember seeing Wayne´s World for the first time and that scene where they headbang in the car, i was like wow what is that song? and this was before the internet you couldn’t go on youtube , spotify or whatever, you had to have a album and it is a old song so nobody did. Until a girl from school dad had it on tape, she stole it for me but i have to give it back.
I played that tape till it broke, i don’t remember if she ever got it back but thanks Louise and i am sorry.
P.s. The song was Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody from 1975.
My brother got me into AC/DC – Aerosmith – D:A:D (Disneyland After Dark) – Iron Maiden – Black Sabbath and little bit af techno, but that didn’t stick. one day we discovered Metallica and all hell broke loose HA HA Pantera – Cannibal Corpse – Sepultura – slayer. Yes i became a metalhead, and i also watch lot of MTV and VH1 and i learned a lot about Hip Hop, musicvideos and behind the music.
So of course i got in to a band, but 1 problems i am dyslexic i can’t read or write, and all they needed was a singer. So we made a deal, if i can get a turntable to scratch on i am in, so i worked my ass of to buy a turntable and i got it. We were heavy influence by bands like Head Pe – Deftones – slipknot – In flames – Killswitch Engage and of coures Limp Bizkit at that time. The band ( Spleen ) lasted 8 years.
after that Guitarist and me were looking for mew members for our new metal band. But in between we had fun making som funny country songs as Swallow Us, it didn´t last long because we got the members for our next metal band ( 9000 John Doe ) i became the lead singer or screamer and lyricist in that band.
We lasted for 11 years and played a lot of shows.
After that i was so tired of being in a band, so i decided to go solo as a one man band ( Vildknøs / Vildknos ) I already learn to write lyrics, but i never learn to play the guitar. But like everything else they said i can’t do, i will. I might not be the best at it, but i am here to learn. So now i am back to my childhood roots and playing some Outlaw / Dark / Country / trucker / Rock / Metal music called Vildknøs and dress up like a outlaw cowboy.
Go listen on your favorite streaming platform, so i can get money for gas to my next live show.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes how to play the damn guitar HA HA. I wish someone in my family could play a instrument and teach my early on.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I don´t understand why you would pay so much money, for something you can’t hold in your hands. But what the hell do i know? might it´s the future in this fucked up world we all try to survive in.
If you like it, go for it, if not, just don’t…
