We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tommi Rose a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tommi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was about fifteen I went through my first really awful breakup. I remember waking up the next morning and being in such a terrible headspace. I felt so drained, exhausted, hopeless, and utterly alone. My mom told me that I wasn’t going to school that day, and she took me into our family room and put on ‘Superbad’ (which I had never seen before). I laughed all the way through, and I just remember watching this movie thinking, what an incredible power filmmaking holds. On one of the absolute worst days of my young life, I was laughing. Sometimes art challenges us, makes us see the world a little differently, and sometimes, we just need a distraction from the world when it gets too heavy to bear. Both are beautiful. I knew I had to be a part of it.
I had been drawn to the arts my whole life, but that day I realized why.

Tommi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started out as many young actors do… having so much raw energy that my parents decided channeling that into acting classes was the only way to preserve their sanity. I began those at age 3. I fell in love and never left. I was in local musical theatre productions until I was about 14 when booked my first film gig ‘In Sanity, Florida’ acting alongside the legendary Burt Reynolds. After that I was on Nickelodeon’s ‘I Am Frankie’ where I met some of my dearest friends to this day. After that was a long line of feature films including ‘A Savannah Haunting’ ‘Deadly Cheer Mom’ and now the Netflix series ‘Sweet Magnolias’. I also most recently wrapped a western film ‘A Gunfighter’s Deal’ opposite Jesse Kove. It was such a wonderful experience with so many great actors and I cannot wait for it to be released.
I am also a singer/songwriter and have 6 singles out now on all music platforms. Getting ready to expand on that soon this year in Nashville.

How did you build your audience on social media?
The thing about social media is it’s always changing. The apps, the algorithm, you name it. You can try to keep up with the trends and sure that might work for a while but I’ve found that the key is to just do what inspires you. It’s YOUR profile and if you just stay true to yourself, you will cultivate an audience that resonates with you on a deeper level. Let your uniqueness shine.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Most people might think that it’s the premieres and the awards and the shining lights but for me, the human connection is what means the most. There is no feeling like being a part of a production, collectively creating something with other people who share the same passion, love and common goal.
