We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Timothy LaRoque. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Timothy below.
Timothy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I would say the most meaningful project that I’ve worked on so far is my debut EP “Stuck In The Past”. Released earlier this year (April 20), these songs give you a personal glimpse into who and where I am at this point in my life, while showcasing my influences through my own unique sound.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Timothy LaRoque and I am a 22-year old singer-songwriter. Born and residing in Hollywood, Florida, I was raised on all sorts of classic music. Influenced by my dad and his guitar playing growing up, he jumpstarted my musical journey by teaching me a few Beatles songs at the age of 9 and my love for music has brought me this far. The Beatles, Cat Stevens, Motown, and Paul Simon are just a few of my biggest influences that I’ve been listening to all my life, and still my go-to favorites for when I want to listen to music.
I started performing live with a band of school friends in 2015 and since then, I’ve been all over the South Florida music scene with my groups The Summit and The Def Cats. Bringing an unparalleled energy to my live shows and my wide ranging repertoire sets me apart from other groups and artists. As frontman and lead guitarist all in one, though I am still a sensitive musician at heart, I give my all every performance and anyone who’s seen me live can attest to that.
Family is a huge part of my identity so the thing that makes me most proud about is being able to share mine and all music with my loved ones. Whether it’s singing with my brothers randomly throughout the day or playing with my dad at the end of the night, I never get tired of it. As well, I’ve been very fortunate to work with my uncle Rob Arthur on my debut release, “Stuck In The Past”. Not only did he produce and perform on it, but he assembled an amazing line up of musicians (Will Lee, Shawn Fichter, Adam Lester) to work their magic on my songs and I am forever grateful for him taking a chance on me. “Stuck In The Past” was released and distributed by our independent record labels, Hwy 7 Records and Def Cat Records.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
Not For Tim.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being musical is bringing healing to people through music. I’m part of a nonprofit organization called Musicians On Call that brings musicians to hospitals for bedside performances and, though it’s gone virtual since the pandemic, it’s always a beautiful, moving experience to bring the power of music to these patients. As a lover of life and music, one of my favorite things I’m able to do is sing and play for people. Performing for people and seeing them singing along, recognizing a song you’ve decided to play for them, is heartwarming to say the least.
