We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timothy Beeman Ii a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope that people will remember how I worked to perpetuate the community that I’m in (Winston-Salem, NC). My heart is in this city, all aspects of it. I use my voice in podcast production and radio broadcasts to highlight local businesses, causes, movers & shakers, restaurants, heroes, etc. What I can’t afford to donate in money to the local community, I make up in promotion of my city.

Timothy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always wanted to be in radio. My best friend was in radio and, at the time, I didn’t think I had what it took to do it.
I have been a musician my entire life, had an in-home recording studio, and was very interested in this “new media” called podcasting. Podcasting is basically radio on-demand, and I could record radio-style shows without worrying about messing something up.
I fell in love with the medium, found my fears and worries were unwarranted, and have produced over 4500 podcast episodes. Not just my own, but how I make my living is producing for companies, organizations, and individuals who want to use podcasting to convey their message to the masses.
Under the Such-N-Such Media umbrella, I also own an internet-based radio station, so I’m living my dream all around.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
I’m actually in a position now where I have to step up my client base because I have grown into a large space and the lease is not cheap. I need the space, however, and am doing all I can to keep it going strong. The future is looking much brighter, though.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I am known as “The Podfather” because of the many podcasts I’ve produced, but the moniker wasn’t just a cheap laugh. I am a voice coach (to help podcasters find their “voice,” and I don’t mean speaking voice), introduce best practices, experience, and expertise, and I’m an easy producer to work with. I’m not just going to take someone’s money and move on. I make sure the product going out is of the highest quality in both sound and content. I help make my clients better podcasters.
