We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tim Hutchins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tim below.
Hi Tim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Sydewynder’s debut album “Autonomous” is the most meaningful project I’ve been a part of so far. All of the members of Sydewynder took a risk and moved away from their hometowns to pursue their dreams here in Nashville. We share a collective vision and have very similar influences, but some do differ which provides us with an interesting challenge of blending them together in the most cohesive and satisfying way we can. We feel we achieved that with “Autonomous”. Taking the time to strike the perfect balance of everyone’s collective influences helps to ensure the creative and longterm satisfaction of everyone involved. It’s not the easiest task and can be very complicated at times, but when everyone feels their voice is heard and their opinion matters, the passion and drive that comes out of that bond allows for the most amazing things to happen.

Tim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started playing on a classical acoustic guitar when I was ten, a year later, my dad had seen that I was playing everyday and really loved it. He took me to a store called Daddy’s Junky Music to buy my first electric guitar. I was obsessed with the sound of harmonized/dueling guitars that I heard in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Avenged Sevenfold. I’ve always had a creative mind so I immediately wanted to learn how to write my own songs. I took lessons for several years and was consuming as much music as possible. I really wanted to form my own band and there were several attempts, but nothing really panned out until I moved to Nashville in August of 2018. I started Sydewynder with my best friends and we had our first Self-Titled EP out by the summer of 2019.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have a very particular vision of what I want to achieve with this band and that goal is shared by every member of Sydewynder. I remember the feeling I had as a kid when I heard a song that excited me so much that all the hair on the back of my neck stood up. It propels your imagination forward in ways that are difficult to describe but it’s very motivating and energizing. The goal of Sydeywynder is to carry the spirit of metal/hardrock with us into the future. Our favorite bands won’t be around forever, it’s our goal to help carry that momentum forward with our own unique blend of hard rock and heavy metal.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Recently, I’ve been learning to keep the creative process separate from the marketing side of things because I’ve found that writing from the perspective of attempting to appease an algorithm can make it more difficult to ignite the creative spirit.
