We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany below.
Tiffany, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Exquisite Slay was once a thought in my head when I was in High School. That thought then came to mind again when I was a freshman in College, but I still didn’t have the courage to pursue it. When COVID came in 2020 and everything shut down, that’s when I sat myself down and said “this is something you need to do.”. However, before starting my business, I had to figure out what my mission was and why I was starting this business.
I started Exquisite Slay not to gain a profit, but to allow women to freely express themselves. I wanted my shirts to be an easy reminder to women that you are a queen, you are fabulous and fearless, and you are powerful. It’s so easy for women to forget their power and their strength sometimes, so when creating my shirts I definitely wanted women to be able to remember who they are and what their mission is.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Tiffany and I’m the CEO of Exquisite Slay. Exquisite Slay is a luxury style brand for the everyday woman. We sell t-shirts with empowering phrases, accessories, and beauty products.
I launched Exquisite Slay in 2020 during the pandemic. Starting this business was something I’ve always wanted to do, but I often talked myself out of it because I didn’t think it would be something I would be successful at. However, when the pandemic came and everything was shut down I decided to stop being scared and do something that would make me happy.
The thing I’m most proud of about my business is that you can see the growth. From when I first started to now you can see how much my mindset as a business owner has changed which has then caused me to evolve and switch up my brand to be a more luxury brand. Some of things I’ve changed is my instagram, instead of just uploading photos and videos in a non-organized way I created a system to where I post models wearing my shirts and then product shots just so it can look more organized and clean when followers and customer visit my page. I also changed our website, when we first started our website was all over the place and you couldn’t tell that we were advertising ourselves as luxury. So, I switched things up and found one font for the website, and selected two colors and made sure everything is easy to find and overall just made it a user friendly website.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for my business has been word of mouth. I use to always think social media is the only way for me to get new customers and increase my sales, but it’s turns out word of mouth has been more successful. I started openly mentioning my business in conversations or using my beauty products in front of people so they can ask me about it and it’s definitely been helpful, because those people who I’m mentioning my business to or using my products in front of have then gone on my site and purchased several things.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
The best way for me to keep in touch with my customers is through newsletters. I’ve noticed that when I send out newsletter repeat customers are always coming back to the site to either stock up on the products they love or purchase new products from me.
