We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tierra Traniece a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tierra , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I always strive for more. Initially, my plan was to become. teacher and do music and publishing on the side. The roles have switched tremendously. I am a reading interventionist part-time and I’ve decimated the bulk of my hours to being an artist, author, and Publisher. It was never in my plans to do hard labor after 25. I’ve always man infested “retiring” at 25 and I made sure whatever work that I will be doing didn’t feel like work. My manifestation shortly came into fruition when I released my debut single “Fool Me Once.” The streams, the downloads, purchases and support set me up to live comfortably off of my creativity. Once the pandemic hit, I had to find another route to increase my revenue because shows weren’t getting booked due to covid. I utilized my writing skills and released a book of the same title, and it did amazing! I’ve made close to 5 figures off the book alone, But I’m always striving for more. I learned to turn my pain into payments and the rest was history.

Tierra , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Tierra TraNiece. I am an artists, author, publisher, songwriter, poet and Influencer. I have always been intrigued by words since a young age and my mom would often tease me and tell me that my mouth will one day get me In trouble because it was so “smart.” I haven’t gotten in much trouble but I have definitely learned the power of my words and I utilize them in a positive way. From books to poems to songs, I have always loved writing and I find it to be truly therapeutic and impactful. What sets me aside from anyone in any of the industries that I am apart of is that I stay true to myself. I built my brand on true authenticity. What you see is what you get and every now and again you may see a new layer being peeled off. I am multifaceted, ambitious, tenacious and most of all, human. I know that we are all human, but sometimes it helps to let fans know that even with “supernatural talents” life and adversity do not spare me at all. I just turn it all into content.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes, To any upcoming artists, please don’t be afraid to promote yourself. Share your music whenever and wherever. Make sure you’re not just making music, but you’re becoming knowledgeable about the business. Always make sure you have clean versions of every song you make, register your music, credit the creatives you work with, give the producers you work with their flowers, appreciate the Dj’s that play your music with pure intent and stop crying about those who don’t support you, it’s a slap in the face to those who do. Most of all, in this business, its very little of what you know, but mostly who you know. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS & No matter how big you get, always remember it’s because of the “little” people that believe in you!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A very hard lesson that I had to unlearn is that just because you love people don’t mean that they have to love you back. Just because you have a pure heart don’t mean that everyone you encounter will treat you with the care and grace that you give to them. People are allowed to deny your love and support no matter how pure and strong it is. I learned this after God swept a great amount of friends and loved ones out of my life in a single year. Sometimes God hears the conversations being had that you don’t.One disagreement showed me all I needed to know about those I loved the most. Did it hurt? Still. Have I healed? Will. It is all God’s will.
