We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tieara Leeann a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tieara , appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Since I been in the field of mental health I have worked for a few different agencies. I realized my passion and commitment to helping my clients was something bigger than just completing hours. My mission is all about changing lives and investing skills, love and motivation into each client. I planned to start my own practice but I didn’t have the license at the time. I had to find someone to get credentialed with insurance panels and to establish a solid foundation. I found someone to partner with his name was Bryan. He believed in me and when I told him my plan he was so cooperative and patient. We got an office and started the process. I was so excited, I would literally bring Bryan little gifts and treats to the office just to show my appreciation. Two months later I got a phone call from his sister informing me that Bryan was is in hospice. My mouth dropped, I could not believe my ears. Shortly after Bryan passed away. Back to the drawing board, I had to find another partner. I started putting out Facebook ads and instantly found two people. From there it was a long process to get established but I stayed focus, consistent, and confident that everything would come together and it did. My practice now credentialed with 4 insurance panels, I have interns, supervisors and most importantly clients that are receiving mental health services. The process was not easy it gave me so much anxiety but with mentors, prayer, and execution I completed the goal. My practice is growing bigger and better everyday.

Tieara , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Attending college forced me to find purpose. It took me so long to select a major I was taking elective last the first two years of college. After getting to know myself more I decided to pursue Social Work. I obtained my bachelors at University of Toledo. Then moved to Atlanta… that was a pivotal moment because I also had dreams of modeling, entertainment, and networking. I was able to do all of that but I didn’t feel fulfilled so I went back to school to get my masters. The program was challenging and I don’t think it was the work it was where I was planted. Atlanta is a fast paced, entrepreneurial, and party city. It was hard to stay focus but I had a system in place I would workout, nature walk, and I had a mentor.

What problems you solve for your clients?
I teach my clients to manage emotions, give them tools they can use to discipline their mind, organize their thoughts, and motivate them to overcome any obstacle they may be facing.
I give my clients hope, I challenge their thoughts and help them rewire old habits and upgrade their lifestyle to a healthier one.
I’m proud of the loves I changed and the impact I’ve made on people lives.
I want my followers to know although I am a therapist I’m still human I have difficult moments of my life but what sets me apart is my strong mindset.
I am me, my superpower is my identity. I invested a lot of time on learning myself and that’s why I’m able to move how I move.
I’m professional but I’m still a baddass!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being from Dayton,Ohio which is considered a small town, I had a small mind. I didn’t reach as far as I could in terms of goals. I wasn’t educated about the financial aspect of funding my life, I wasn’t aware of certain etiquette in rooms. I had to rewrite a lot. I met some amazing people in Atlanta that taught me and inspired me to go after my dreams- starting a business, traveling the world, meeting important people, investing, and adapting good habits.
