Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Teresa Rose. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Teresa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I have a degree in biology/chemistry as well a long career as a professional artist. The chemistry helps me maintain the health of my clients’ hair. A vital component to both the results and color longevity. My history in art gives me a good understanding of color theory, which makes it easier to achieve desired results. I went to cosmetology school later in life, I wish I had made the jump sooner but the responsibilities of adulthood made it difficult.

Teresa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a special and practical effects artist for film for over 15 years. I originally went to cosmetology school to add it to my resume and open more makeup jobs to myself. Once I was in school, I fell absolutely in love with the art of hair coloring. I won an award for my holographic hair design while I was still in school. The recognition I received from this honor opened many doors for me. My chemistry background is vital to what I do for many reasons. As well as my background in art. I enjoy learning and creating new techniques with color and the movement of hair. When learning basic hair cutting, I learned how different angels and elevations affect the hair. I use these same principles to create unique and beautiful effects with hair color as well. Color theory is also very important, as I can identify which colors/tones are most flattering for my clients. Each client is a unique canvas as I imply many different techniques to achieve their ideal hair color and style. Science and understanding has also made it possible for me to take the best care possible of clients with special needs. Like chemotherapy patients, Trichotillomania, postpartum hair, and many other circumstances that make clients require special care. Nothing is one size fits all. Everyone is unique and deserves that best fit for their individual needs.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to make as many people as happy and comfortable in their skin as possible. I strive to provide a safe environment where they can express themselves without judgement. I want to show each client that they are beautiful and help them love themselves as much as I love them.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support local businesses. We appreciate you and your support more than you’ll ever know. Big corporations see people as numbers and stepping stones. Small businesses see you as our most important thing. We strive to provide you with personalized services that mean the most to you, because you mean the most to us. We would never be able to do what we do and be who we are without you.
