We were lucky to catch up with Tenesha Wards recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tenesha, thanks for joining us today. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
You are your best and only true advocate and your OWN best doctor when it comes to your body, your mind, and your health. I have been there. I have sat in a doctor’s office and was told I am fine. It’s all in my head. Exercise more. Go home and get some rest. Or my favorite, stop worrying so much and you’ll be fine.
Or worse, here is an antidepressant or pain medication, take this and be on your way. Remember, this was when I was only 15 years old. I was not not lacking rest, I was not lacking exercise, I was not too worried, and I certainly was not depressed.
My body had broken down, and I needed to fix it. If your body is broken, and you know there is something wrong DO NOT STOP until you find the right team to help you fix it! You are the only one in your body. You are the only one who knows what it feels like when it is not functioning, don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
Doctors are just people, and they don’t always have the answers. Some will dig deeper, and some won’t. We all take the oath to do no harm, and we try our best. But sometimes our best just isn’t good enough. That’s where you have to find the physician within you and listen to your own voice. Find the team who will walk alongside you in your healing journey.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Sure! My name is Dr. Tenesha Wards, and I am the Founder and Medical Director of Infinity Wellness Center. My practice supports the top 5% most difficult cases that are often written off by other doctors. I founded The Infinity Way™ program to uncover and correct the root cause of chronic fatigue and other patient symptoms. The Infinity Way™ custom care plans, which is followed by my whole team, meet the unique needs of individual patients and help them achieve their wellness goals. I established my practice with science-backed, holistic principles that support whole-body health.
My focus is on Chronic Fatigue, GI Issues, Women’s Hormone Issues from Pre/Post Menopause to Infertility, Fibromyalgia, Headaches, Burnout, and Insomnia. I believe in the importance of treating the whole person and not just the symptoms.
Thousands of women have found me and my team at Infinity Wellness Center after not seeing results with traditional practitioners, cookie cutter programs, and expensive supplements. Our holistic approach to wellness means we specialize in finding and correcting the core root cause of conditions like Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain, and Fibromyalgia.
I draw from my personal struggles with Lyme Disease, Autoimmunity, and Epstein Barr Virus which is where I find the fuel to pursue my passion – Helping people Heal Near and Far.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Short answer, no. Functional medicine is a way of life for my family. We live what we preach – avoid toxins, eat clean, lower stress levels and find joy in life. I see all medicine going in the direction of core root cause care sooner than later. I believe most people are tired of how many pharmaceuticals we are prescribed without actual plans to heal the body. I know more and more doctors every year changing their practice and leaning into this type of medicine. It’s not only a profession, it’s my passion.
Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses.
I purchased my current medical practice from a retiring doctor. I do not regret it as it’s been my passion and most fulfilling accomplishment. At the same time, I was young and had a lot to learn. This was right before the crash in 2008 and very easy to get a business loan. I was already in 6 figures of debt and added another $150,000 to it! What I learned is you can’t buy customers. You have to earn them. The patients were attached and bonded with the retiring doctor. Some patients left without giving me a chance, some left before I came on, and a few stayed. I was able to quickly realize I needed to build this business on my own, almost from scratch! Between networking, community events and word of mouth – I did.
