Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tejsavi Manoj. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tejsavi, thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Shield Seniors serves an underserved community — senior citizens, especially those who are vulnerable to cyber fraud. Many older adults face significant challenges in navigating the digital world, often lacking the knowledge to recognize online threats. This leaves them especially susceptible to scams and fraud, which can have devastating financial and emotional consequences.
This mission is deeply personal to me. Early last year, my 85-year-old grandfather was nearly a victim of cyber fraud. He received a WhatsApp message that appeared to be from family members, urgently requesting personal details for an emergency. Unaware of the red flags, he almost shared sensitive information, which could have resulted in significant financial loss. Witnessing his near-miss was a turning point for me, igniting a deep commitment to protect seniors from the dangers of online fraud. Though I lost him in January 2025, his experience continues to fuel my dedication to ensuring that older adults stay safe and secure online.
Shield Seniors was born out of the need to address this vulnerability. We simplify complex cybersecurity concepts into clear, easy-to-understand language, providing a chatbot that offers real-time, accessible advice. Our platform also allows seniors to upload suspicious emails or images for analysis, empowering them to identify and avoid online threats. Our goal isn’t just to educate — it’s to help seniors regain their confidence in using technology safely and independently.
The underserved nature of this community extends beyond just access to technology. It’s about ensuring that seniors have the knowledge, tools, and support to protect themselves in an increasingly digital world. Shield Seniors offers a platform specifically designed to meet the unique needs of older adults, helping them navigate the digital landscape securely. By equipping seniors with the resources to recognize and avoid online threats, we aim to preserve their independence, security, and dignity in a world that’s becoming more digital by the day.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
About Me & How I Got Started
I founded Shield Seniors out of a deep personal commitment to protecting older adults from cyber threats. My passion for cybersecurity and AI technology began with my love for problem-solving and innovation. However, the real turning point came when my grandfather nearly fell victim to a cyber fraud scam. Witnessing his vulnerability and the lack of accessible solutions for seniors to navigate the digital world safely inspired me to take action.
As a high school student with a strong background in coding, AI, and cybersecurity, I decided to create a Generative AI-powered platform designed specifically for older adults. My goal was simple: empower seniors with the knowledge and tools they need to stay safe online and maintain their digital independence with dignity.
What Shield Seniors Offers
Shield Seniors is more than just an educational platform—it’s a comprehensive cybersecurity assistant for seniors.
Unlike generic cybersecurity tools, Shield Seniors combines education, real-time assistance, and AI-driven scam detection into a single user-friendly platform.
The Problem We Solve
Cybercrime against older adults is a rapidly growing issue. In 2023 alone, $3.4 billion was lost to scams targeting seniors, with 75% of older adults struggling with cybersecurity basics. Many seniors lack the digital literacy to recognize phishing scams, deceptive emails, and fraudulent phone calls—making them an easy target for cybercriminals.
With Shield Seniors, we bridge the cybersecurity knowledge gap and provide a solution that is accessible, intuitive, and empowering. The platform is designed with large fonts, simple navigation, and an interactive AI assistant to ensure ease of use for older adults.
What Sets Shield Seniors Apart
Most cybersecurity solutions—are designed for tech-savvy users. They offer broad protection but lack senior-friendly features. Unlike these competitors, Shield Seniors is tailored specifically for older adults and focuses on:
Education + Protection: Unlike other tools that only block threats, Shield Seniors teaches seniors how to identify scams themselves.
AI-Powered Scam Detection: The Analyze feature allows users to upload suspicious messages and get real-time fraud assessments.
User-Friendly Interface: Designed with seniors in mind—simple buttons, larger text, and a stress-free experience.
This focus on education, independence, and usability makes Shield Seniors the first all-in-one cybersecurity solution built specifically for older adults.
What I’m Most Proud Of
Our goal is making a real-world impact by preventing financial loss and emotional distress among older adults. By leveraging Generative AI and real-time scam detection, we’re not only protecting seniors but also empowering them to navigate the digital world safely.
Final Thoughts & What I Want People to Know
Shield Seniors is more than just a cybersecurity tool—it’s a movement to ensure digital safety and independence for older adults. If you have a loved one who struggles with online scams, or if you want to help protect seniors from cyber threats, Shield Seniors is here to help.
I’m always looking for mentors, partners, and supporters who believe in this mission. Whether through community outreach, partnerships with senior living communities, or simply spreading awareness, we can make a difference in the lives of older adults together.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my journey with Shield Seniors came when I had to develop the application using AI, despite being completely unfamiliar with the technology at the time. As a high school junior, I knew I wanted to incorporate AI into my project to help seniors avoid cyber fraud, but I had little to no experience with AI development.
At the start, I was overwhelmed. I didn’t know where to begin, and I didn’t have the resources to take formal courses. With no budget for the project, I had to rely on free Generative AI APIs to write and test my code. This meant I had to learn everything from scratch, which felt like an enormous task.
To get started, I turned to YouTube and Udemy, watching countless tutorials on machine learning and AI. I dedicated countless hours to watching videos, taking online courses, and practicing what I had learned. I spent nights debugging and experimenting with different APIs, trying to piece together the code to make the virtual assistant work. I struggled at times when things didn’t work as expected or when I encountered technical roadblocks, but I didn’t let the setbacks stop me. I knew that if I could push through the difficulties, I’d be one step closer to creating something meaningful for seniors.
Over time, I started to feel more comfortable with the technology, and the results began to show. I managed to integrate free AI APIs into the application, allowing me to provide real-time advice to seniors and analyze suspicious messages they uploaded. It wasn’t perfect at first, but I kept improving it through constant iteration and learning.
This experience taught me that resilience is about more than just staying determined—it’s about making the best of what you have and not giving up when things get tough. Even though I was new to AI, I found ways to learn, adapt, and apply the knowledge to build a product that would make a difference. The journey wasn’t easy, but it reinforced my belief that with enough persistence, learning, and creativity, anything is possible.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I want to unlearn is the belief that things should always go according to the initial plan, especially when resources and budgets are limited. This mindset led to frustration and setbacks early in the development of Shield Seniors, but ultimately, it taught me a crucial lesson in adaptability and resourcefulness.
When I first started building Shield Seniors, I decided to use the OpenAI API, believing that its capabilities would be perfect for the chatbot and AI-powered features I wanted to offer. I imagined that I could quickly build a high-functioning product and provide real-time cybersecurity advice to seniors with the most sophisticated AI tools available. However, I quickly ran into a major roadblock—OpenAI’s API wasn’t free, and I didn’t have the budget to pay for it. I had no funding to support the costs, so I had to pivot and find free alternatives.
This shift to using free AI APIs created a new set of challenges. The free APIs available at the time weren’t as mature or reliable as OpenAI’s, and this led to a lot of problems during development. The functionality was often inconsistent, and I ran into bugs that I couldn’t easily resolve because the documentation and support were limited. It was frustrating. I had to continuously adapt my approach, trying different APIs and learning on the go, but this process slowed down the development and made the project feel like it was constantly being held back by external limitations.
The backstory to this lesson is that I learned the hard way that the path to building something impactful is rarely smooth, especially when you don’t have all the resources you’d like. I had to unlearn the belief that everything would fall into place with the perfect tools. Instead, I realized that you have to work with what you have and be ready to pivot when things don’t go according to plan. It’s not always about having the best resources, but rather about making the most of what’s available, being adaptable, and pushing forward despite the obstacles.
This experience taught me to be more resourceful and creative. I’ve learned that, in the face of limited resources, flexibility and persistence are key. The ability to pivot and adapt when things don’t go as planned has become one of the most valuable skills I’ve developed. And now, I no longer expect smooth sailing—I’ve learned to embrace the bumps along the way as part of the journey to success.
