We recently connected with Taylor Krassa and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always had a love for photography, starting with those early days snapping pictures of friends with my point-and-shoot film camera. The turning point was when I took my first photography class as part of my graphic design degree – that’s when everything clicked.
The learning process has been a combination of formal education, hands-on experience, and a good dose of self-reflection. After completing my degrees in Business Management and Graphic Design, I immersed myself in the world of photography by working with professionals in the industry. I gained hands-on experience in the industry’s many niches while developing my style, and I am so grateful for that. Perhaps a more intentional approach to mentorship and seeking out specific resources could have expedited my learning process. But then again, the journey is as important as the destination, and each experience has contributed to where I am today.
Skills, a blend of technical photography expertise, the ability to connect with people, and an innate curiosity to continually seek more knowledge have been crucial. Portraiture and editorial photography, my primary focus areas, demand not only technical proficiency but also the skill to make subjects feel at ease during our sessions. Being acutely tuned into a subject/client’s needs and constant curiosity to explore and learn more has been instrumental in capturing authentic moments and refining my craft.
A blend of technical photography expertise, the ability to connect with people, and an innate curiosity to continually seek more knowledge have been crucial. Looking back, I realize the importance of a supportive community. The connections I made, especially with those who shared similar experiences, significantly impacted my learning journey. If I could offer advice, it would be to seek out those connections early on – join groups, attend networking events, and surround yourself with people who encourage your growth.
Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello there! I’m Taylor, the Lead Photographer and Biz Cheerleader at Taylor Jade Photography. My journey into photography started with a genuine love for capturing moments – from the small details to the grand stories. It all began when I took my first photography class during my graphic design degree, and that spark ignited a passion that has only grown over the years.
As I developed my craft, I photographed a little of everything. Babies, Families, Seniors, Weddings and Events. While I loved every experience, I felt pulled towards the opportunities that really allowed me to capture my clients in their element. I then started working with business owners and makers to create editorial-inspired images that showcase their brands, and I fell in love. This allowed me to embrace my passion for evocative imagery while servicing a community that is so important to me.
I’ve built a business to empower creators, dreamers, and makers. My superpower is making people feel seen, heard, and all-around awesome. I specialize in Portraiture and Editorial Photography, aiming to create images that not only showcase the beauty of the subject but also tell a compelling story.
What sets me apart is my commitment to honoring your brand and vision. Your business is your baby, and I understand the heart and soul you’ve poured into every detail. When you choose Taylor Jade Photography, you’re not getting cookie-cutter images; you’re getting a personalized experience that captures the essence of how you create and uniquely serve your clients.
I take pride in being a fly on the wall, capturing the details of your process that might otherwise go unnoticed. It’s about translating your passion into visual stories that resonate with your audience. I understand your brand is unique, and I aim to showcase your story in a way that is authentically and uniquely yours.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I love to see others succeed; I have a passion for people, their dreams, and their work. Above all, I want people to feel seen, heard, and AWESOME.
One of the things I love most about photography is that I get to capture a visual representation of how incredible an individual is, how much they light up when they are doing what they love, or the attention they put into their work.
This allows the subject to experience a new perspective and see themselves in a way we never would by looking in the mirror. It makes me proud and emotional every time to give people a glimpse at how amazing they are, how loved they are. and how brilliantly they shine when given the chance.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think being creative influences how you see and experience the world. At least, in my experience, it makes you conscious of the vast number of perspectives and influences that surround us every day and the amount of energy and emotion that goes into so much of what we consume.
Creativity is a form of expression, a way for us to process our experiences or, in a professional’s case, share others’ stories. Meeting and connecting with people from around the world has been one of the most rewarding things of my creative journey.
