We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Harris recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I started singing at 3 years old and did performing arts around 5 years old up until high school. I’ve always had a love for singing and performing.
Starting earlier as far as recording etc I probably would be further than where I am but I’m happy the way everything played out because I met amazing people. I met my spouse and I learned and experienced a lot of life. I got to spend more time with my loved ones.
I wouldn’t necessarily say I wish I started my career earlier I would say more so I wish I would have bet on myself earlier in the game. I always knew I was talented but I don’t fully think I knew I could really make this a thing, like actually be successful in it!
.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Taylor Avonté I’m an R&B artist from Baltimore, MD. I’m 28 years old I’m a Morgan State Alumni and a Western dove. I’m kid free and a bomb Godmother.
I got started in music doing performing arts. Shout out to Mrs. Hardison. I started recording music professionally in 2012 and once I heard my voice on a track it was all she wrote. I knew this was for me.
What sets me apart from others is my drive to keep going even when the light seems dim at the end of the tunnel.
What I’m most proud of is the body of work I’m producing with my team now. I’m in love with this new sound I’m excited to show the world what Ive been working on.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me what’s the most rewarding about being an artist is to see/hear the finished product after you put in all of the work and also to see people’s reaction to your music. I think would really puts the icing on the cake for me is to hear people sing my songs back to me, like actually knowing the lyrics. The feeling is indescribable.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
So the way that I built my audience on social media was when I was 12 years old I had a YouTube channel that I shared with my sister and we were called “The Vocalistas”. We were doing it just for fun and didn’t realize that we were building a fan base.
From there, I continued to share my talent on social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Soundcloud etc.
The only advice I have for people that want to start building their social media present is to just stay consistent as much as you can especially now because everyone’s attention span is very low and you have to keep putting out content to stay relevant because it’s always something new.
