We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Briggs. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.
Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success can be measured in many different ways. To own and operate a successful business really speaks on numerous personal qualities that you develop and maintain. Qualities like discipline, motivation, organization, and perseverance. Anyone can start a business, the hard part is growing the business. It takes mountains of effort to take an idea then groom and grow it to be this successful business that the world sees. Success also comes when you create a team. Even though you may have to start the journey alone, you will never reach the highest point without a good team behind you. In my opinion, the ultimate goal to a successful business it to make it into a well oiled machine that goes without you. To be successful as a person, like I said it can be measured in different ways depending on the perspective.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Taylor Briggs and I am from Roxie, MS. I was always creative growing up but I played sports so that was the forefront of my childhood. It wasn’t until after college that I had this idea that I wanted to design clothes. I actually started with children’s clothing before switching to adult clothing. I had no prior experience in business so I taught myself everything from building websites to creating the actual design, to running the actual business. The name of my brand is TitleBlack, it is derived from my initials and my ethnic background, I design athleisure clothing that can be dressed up or down. I want people to feel empowered when they wear my bold designs, comfortable when they choose TitleBlack to wear on a night out, and confident knowing that they are wearing exclusive designs by me. I am most proud that I didn’t give up on my dream when there was so many times I wanted to. I am certain my time is coming and I’m just preparing for it
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
To support myself after college I worked in retail and restaurants, while still pursuing my own business. I became a salaried manager at very well known restaurant in the area and it was becoming a career. I had little time to work on my designs but I was able to learn more about business working in the restaurant industry. About 4-5 years go by and I was stable but miserable at my job. The environment was toxic, the hours were catered to the general managers and I had fallen into a depression because I felt like I had to keep my job because the income supplied my business. Shortly after that I left the restaurant industry to pursue my dreams and it was a major adjustment. That income was gone and it needed to be replaced. I had to rewire my mind and lifestyle. It was frightening at first because it was something new but I had a great support system. Sometimes you have to jump off the cliff and grow your wings on the way down..

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think most people recognized my brand for the bold yet classic designs. I’ve always created things that resonated with me in some way. I wear my own clothing most of the time so I create pieces that go together and with other designs. My customers appreciate that they can get a full outfit at a click of a button
