We were lucky to catch up with Tatyana Heyliger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tatyana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
When I first began my journey into cosmetology and esthetics I realized I wanted to supplement my learning with more hands ons experiences. I had wanted to learn from someone who was already established and knew about caring for melanated skin. I worked under the founder of Melanated Beauty Spa for a year and I learned so much from her. . Not only about skincare but really about what it takes to own and manage a business. I was emailing vendors, setting up meetings with potential brand ambassadors, learning how to set up booking websites, creating marketing flyers. Her work ethic, dedication and commitment to her practice and company was amazing to experience. It really showed me at the time that I was not ready lol. It’s not all glitz and glamour and making millions. The beginning of being an entrepreneur is ROUGH. I am glad I learned that early on and was able to implement that knowledge as I stepped out on my own

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tatyana Heyliger and I am a licensed esthetician, lash and nail technician. I specialize in individual lash enhancements, acrylic and gel-x application, specialized facials and waxing. I started my business in May of 2023 and have been picking my small business up since then. I am very proud of the progress I have made so far but am even more excited for what’s to come for my business. At the moment I do sell a lash shampoo for the longevity and health of my clients lash extensions but also want to get into selling skin care products. My brand is all about enhancing the beauty that my clients already have. As a consumer of beauty enhancement services myself, I have experienced services done that take away from what I look like. That almost seems to overpower my God given beauty. My mission and goal with every client is for you to still feel like yourself.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy that I found grew my business was showing my clients my personality! Yes the clients are coming for the service and showing them the quality of your work is very important. However, this is also a time where many people are coming to unwind, escape and relax. The clients want to know that you and your business are a safe and comfortable space for them to do so!!

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most important thing to have in ANY field is great customer service! Everyone wants to feel cared for and like they matter to the businesses they are spending money with. Greet your clients genuinely, ask them about their day, make sure they are comfortable, it makes such a big difference in the experience they have at your business. Not only that but it makes them want to come back and even spread the word!
