We were lucky to catch up with Tara Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tara Robinson, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission is all about empowering love essentially through crafting joyful unions and nurturing lasting connections. The story behind it all is to share love, to honor love, to recognize love – to shine the light on love in all the ways that it manifests. Love radiates and it serves as a beacon for life. As a queer woman, for many years, my type of love was shamed and damned in certain communities. My community was made to feel wrong or inappropriate in many ways. As I learned to love all of me more, I became comfortable in my skin, comfortable with who I chose to love. My world completely brightened and the heaviness in my heart lifted. This is what I want for my couples and others I work with – to know and experience their wholeness in joy and to bask in the ways they love with whoever they love, however they choose. The essence of life is love and it is my gift to celebrate it.
Tara Robinson, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a wedding officiant who also coordinates micro weddings and fun couples events. As a licensed spiritual practitioner, I counsel couples and individuals as well. I fell into the industry because I have a gift of speaking, sharing, and spiritually connecting with souls. After being asked to officiate, I found my space where I shine my light and serve couples uniquely and specially. Not only do I support couples in becoming legally married, I work with them to create vows, to determine for themselves what their marriage will look like, and to establish their own rules of engagement. For couples who want an elegant wedding experience for less than 40 guests, I curate other exceptional wedding vendors and coordinate their wedding day. My couples and clients love my warm, safe energy. I am most proud of treating every couple with love and treating every wedding ceremony with enthusiasm as if it were my first wedding, and at the same time, demonstrating the ease, grace, and professionalism of a wedding pro with significant years of experience. At my couples events, I am most proud of the feedback I receive that individuals had a fantastic time AND have tools to use in their marriages. Authenticity is what clients find when working with me. From crafting personalized wedding ceremonies that radiate love and joy to providing spiritual guidance, I am dedicated to setting the stage for not only a lovely wedding day, but a whole, healthy, and beautiful marriage. My commitment is to make every milestone in a client’s life a memorable and meaningful celebration of the ultimate – LOVE!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The resources that I wish I had known about earlier are business accelerator programs and grants that support for-profit businesses. There’s so much to be aware of when starting a new business. To date, I’ve been able to participate in two business accelerator programs and one mentorship program. Each of them has been invaluable. My business has grown from what I learned and the connections I’ve made through these programs. Secondly, it was eye-opening to learn that I could receive financial support from various granting agencies and companies and still have a for-profit business. Applying for business accelerator programs and grants is now part of my education and growth strategy for my business.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
As a new business owner, there is a desire to keep expenses low as revenue may take time to grow. My lesson was that in my desire to minimize costs, I initially didn’t invest properly in the business or my education in my field. Now, I invest in aspects of my company that demonstrate my reliability and professionalism for my clients. Staying aware of what’s new in my field is essential and I’ll pay for appropriate classes, conferences, and courses to ensure I’m offering the best version of me and my company to clients.
