We were lucky to catch up with TANYA DODARO recently and have shared our conversation below.
TANYA , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I embarked on a quest to unveil my next endeavor, grounded in my belief that the energy we project into the universe eventually comes full circle. The law of attraction is a patient path, and I held firm through months of eager anticipation until, one night, a vivid dream altered my course.
In this dream, I found myself in a vibrant youth center, conversing with a brilliant and motivated young woman eager to embark on her entrepreneurial journey but was stuck facing barriers in her journey. When I woke, I was left with an overwhelming sense of curiosity and a profound message. This is what lead to the conception of ShePreneur.
ShePreneur has since become a transformative initiative, dedicated to empowering female entrepreneurship. Initially, we focused on women facing formidable life challenges, guiding them towards uncharted paths of entrepreneurship. Our collaborations with organizations led to ten weeks of immersive entrepreneurial workshops, supplemented by mentoring and microfinancing programs.
In partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and The Starfish Foundation in Manhattan, New York, we honed our unique curriculum and linked with programs that supported women. Our inaugural year welcomed twenty-seven women from diverse backgrounds, each harboring dreams of brighter futures through self-reliance and entrepreneurship. The most significant part is that their successes have shown to have the power to initiate socioeconomic change in their communities.
Today, ShePreneur stands at the threshold of a new journey. As a social enterprise, our vision extends beyond empowering women; we aspire to foster global impact. We are preparing to launch six unique channels within the ShePreneur platform: media, shop, marketplace, financing, resources, and ecosystem, amplifying our mission of guiding women toward successful entrepreneurship.

Tanya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a consultant, I engage in two main areas:
Communications and Branding: I collaborate closely with CEOs and their teams providing strategic counsel to enhance their brand visibility and communication strategies. I focus on public image management, market positioning, and the development of communication plans that resonate with their target audience. Ultimately empowering clients with the knowledge and tools needed to create a strong and memorable brand presence, fostering positive interactions and connections that drive long-term success.
Entrepreneurship consulting: I specialize in providing strategic guidance and support to individuals, startups, and businesses looking to navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship. I focus on launching and managing successful enterprises, assisting clients with business planning, market research, brand development, value proposition, financial strategy, and more. The goal is to empower aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools needed to transform innovative ideas into thriving businesses while minimizing risks and maximizing opportunities for growth and success.
More about me:
I am a television host, serial entrepreneur, and seasoned branding and communications consultant. For twenty years, I have helped emerging businesses and international executives grow their brands and boost their revenues. My work is founded on three fundamental principles: the pursuit of innovative ideas, a commitment to elevation, and a dedication to disrupting the status quo in execution.
I actively mentor and provide strategic counsel to entrepreneurs through my affiliations with FuturePreneur Canada, venture capital firms and The Forge business incubator at McMaster University. I am the founder of ShePreneur, an online platform committed to empowering and supporting female founders.

Can you talk to us about your experience with selling businesses?
It is always a transformative experience that brings several key lessons into sharp focus.
Firstly, I learned the importance of careful preparation. Months, if not years, of meticulous planning went into the sale, from getting the financials in order to streamlining operations. It underscored the necessity of knowing the true value of my business in the market.
Negotiations taught me about the significance of patience and flexibility. It is essential to strike a deal that works for both parties and meets their respective goals. Additionally, the process reaffirmed the value of confidentiality; maintaining discretion about the buy or sale ensured the stability of business during the transition.
Lastly, surrounding myself with a reliable team, including legal, financial, and advisory experts, was critical. Their guidance ensured I navigated the intricacies of the sale or buy properly.
Collectively, these experiences emphasized the need for thorough preparation, adaptability, and resilience while highlighting the importance of seeking professional advice and maintaining balance through the transition.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Yes, my current business, ShePreneur, has multiple and supplementary revenue streams. As a three-time founder, I prioritize this aspect when evaluating new business ideas. ShePreneur, currently in transition to become a social enterprise, is committed to fostering female entrepreneurship on a global scale through a diverse set of revenue channels. These include a marketplace, a media channel, financing solutions, resource hubs, and a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our mission revolves around championing women in entrepreneurship by nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit and delivering vital resources. In addition to these revenue streams, I’ve also ventured into authorship with a book titled “Where Is Your Boat Headed?” under the ShePreneur umbrella, which serves as another source of income. This book is set to launch this November.
In essence, ShePreneur is designed to be a multifaceted platform with several income-generating avenues, aligning with my preference for businesses with diverse revenue streams.
Here’s a brief glimpse into what my new book is all about:
Do you dream of being your own boss?
Do you have a brilliant idea and a consuming passion for creating a new business?
Are you an entrepreneur seeking inspiration, or a fresh wind in your sails?
It’s time to break the stereotypes around female entrepreneurship and live life on your own terms. Where Is Your Boat Headed?, will help to inspire you to stand at the helm of your own boat. With guidance and support, you can confidently emerge into the ocean of entrepreneurship and navigate the sometimes-stormy waters to your dream destination. In addition to the author, twelve wonderfully diverse women from across different industries share stories of their own entrepreneurial journeys. Encompassing a wide range of disciplines, including nutrition, mining, and public speaking, each unique journey offers nuggets of wisdom and insight.
The challenge ahead is simple yet exciting: You are the captain of your boat. Decide where you’re headed, assemble your crew, and set sail!
