We were lucky to catch up with Tameka Baptiste recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tameka, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on?
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever given a client was to slow down in their homebuying journey, even when the market was moving fast.
I was working with a buyer relocating to the area who felt pressured by the market to make a quick decision. They were ready to move forward on the first home that checked a few boxes, but I could see the decision was coming from stress and urgency, not clarity. I told them honestly that my job wasn’t to rush them into a purchase, it was to help them make the right decision for their life.
I don’t ever want my clients to feel like they’re settling for a home just because of pressure or timing. I want them to love their home from the first sighting until years down the road.
We paused, reassessed what they truly wanted, and focused on long-term fit instead of short-term pressure. A few weeks later they found the right home, one that truly matched their needs and lifestyle. That experience reinforced why I approach real estate the way I do. I believe in transparency, education, and putting people first.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work is following up with clients years later and hearing them say, “Tameka, we still love our home!” That’s always the goal. Buying or selling a home is a major life decision, and I take seriously the responsibility of guiding clients through it all.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always loved supporting people through what most consider life’s most stressful moments and guiding them toward choices that set them up for long-term success. Through my company, Relax, Relate & Real Estate LLC, I’ve worn many hats, teaching yoga, officiating weddings, and selling real estate, all of which taught me how to support people during meaningful moments. Today, I bring that same energy to helping clients buy and sell homes across the Coastal Carolinas, and I serve as the NC Broker-in-Charge for Welcome Home Realty. By the way, we’re hiring!
Whether it’s a first-time homebuyer, someone relocating to the area, a retiree, or an investor, I enjoy helping clients navigate the complexities of the market and find the right property for their needs or goals.
What sets me apart is my ability to read my clients and understand their true needs. A client can give me a laundry list of wants and must-haves, but as soon as we start touring homes, I notice their reactions and pick up on what really matters to them. My patience and humor help guide clients not just to the closing table, but beyond, ensuring they feel confident every step of the way.
I’m proud of the trust I’ve earned and the relationships I’ve built over the years. I want potential clients to know that I bring honesty, empathy, and results. I’m here to make sure people are satisfied with their real estate transaction and feel confident in the choices they make.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my social media audience has been an ongoing rollercoaster. At first, I focused on the professional side of real estate, showing properties and talking about interest rates, but I quickly realized that was not enough. People do not just want to see you as your profession, they want to see you as a person.
Once I started sharing more of myself, from life as a wife and mother, to what I make for dinner, participating in TikTok dances, going live at local events, hitting the beach, and workouts, things changed. People get a window into who I am, both professionally and personally. I also learned not to take myself or my work so seriously. Taking a break, having fun, and showing it is okay. Sharing these real, sometimes silly moments helped people connect with me and decide to follow along.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is to be authentic and show up consistently. Share your expertise, but do not be afraid to show the human side of your life. People follow people, not just what you sell. It also gives potential agents a sense of what it is like to work with me as the NC Broker-in-Charge, the leadership, support, and humor I bring to the team. That transparency helps attract both clients and talented individuals who want to be part of a team that values relationships, trust, and fun.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy I’ve found for growing my clientele is focusing on relationships, trust, and consistent follow-up. Real estate is such a personal experience, and people want to work with someone who genuinely cares about their needs and priorities. I make it a point to understand my clients beyond their wish lists, noticing the subtle reactions that reveal what truly matters to them. That attention to detail helps me match them with the right property and build confidence in their decisions.
Beyond that, I follow up consistently. Whether it’s a text, call, or swag gift, I check in months or even years after a transaction. Keeping that connection shows clients that I’m invested in their happiness long after the deal closes. Client referrals naturally come from happy clients, and that trust has been a huge source of new business in the communities I serve.
I also make sure to show up in multiple ways, from social media to local events, sharing helpful information, tips, and even a little personality. That way, potential clients feel like they already know me before we even meet, which makes the entire process smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
