Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taja Symone Evans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Taja Symone thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My ultimate mission is to magnify and improve the status quo on what it means to be professional and a black creative individual, while breaking the glass ceiling. I’ve always advocated for people that look like me as well as women, it has always been an extremely important part of my brand and what I stand for as a business owner as well as a service provider to others. We all deserve to win.
Taja Symone, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Taja’Symone Evans and I am the creative individual behind TSYMONE VISUALS.
Over the past few years I’ve worked with many brands and small business to aide them in crafting the brand of their dreams!
Coming from a background in traditional art I have expertise in color theory, composition, photography, illustration, print design, branding, merchandise design, social media graphics and much more. In addition to my AA in Mass Communications + BS in Media Communications with a focus in Graphic Design.
My vision is to create a world in which black creatives businesses are just as uplifted and cherished as their counterparts.
I first got into this industry by creating flyers and assets for events at my college etc. which then led me to getting my first few internships and other professional opportunities as well as my first few freelance clients and everything went uphill from there.
Some service I offer my clients are marketing materials, branding & logo design, illustrations, social media assets, website assets, twitch marketing materials, merchandise, etc.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
There are so many resources I use on a daily basis that I WISH I knew about or had access to at the early stages or the beginning of my graphic designer journey. One of them would definitely be my iPad pro ( or any digital/drawing tablet), it not only makes it easy for me draw digitally and import into Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as well as easily share things with my clients on the go. A digital tablet such as the iPad also makes it easy to collect references as well as inspiration.
Some of my other favorite paid/free resources for fonts, stock images, textures, etc. include:
Pixelbuddah, Creativemarket, Pixelsurplus, Vecteezy, DaFont, Unsplash , Pexels.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would definitely say getting on TikTok the past year has helped a lot with growing not only my current audience but also allowing a new/different audience to discover my work as well. Using Pinterest has also been a game changer in getting more eyes and views on my website overall which has definitely made an impact on the engagement of all of my social media channels.
