We were lucky to catch up with Steven Whidbee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Steven, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s go back in time a bit – can you share a story of a time when you learned an important lesson during your education?
An important lesson I learned in High School was from my home room teacher at Samuel J. Tilden located in Brooklyn N.Y. My teacher understood that most students were not going to make it because of life choices and circumstances. Something must have inspired him one day and he decided to lecture us, I would say save the ones he knew would go on to become great in life. I remember him saying the following: Listen up, no one is coming to save you, none of us were born into a family of wealth, from the day we’re born you were given a choice be better or worse than the generation before you. I believe in you, do you believe in yourself? If so, focus on being better, save yourself.
From that day I was determined to be better than what I was thought and desired a better life given to me. I put the work in to save myself.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my company back in 2011, as an outlet or should I say an escape from what I was dealing with mentally at the time. I found an outlet through music, I refer to as my therapy. After embracing my love for music, I noticed companies were starting to make clothes I couldn’t fit being that I’m 6’4 275lbs.
Because of the lack of clothes being produced to fit people my size I decided to create my own clothing line, Phremynd. I took my love for the Disney cartoon and my imagination to create a brand that matched my mindset.
Phremynd was created off the mindset that there is nothing we can’t do once we free ourselves mentally from all doubt and insecurities. From the music to the clothing, I eventually published my own books and currently working on my first movie.
With That being said, embrace the mindset, follow the rabbit, TillwePhre2, Ha Ha!!!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I followed the same blueprint as other artist and business owners, however I knew I had to stand out, I needed to be different from the other brands on social media. I added visual stunning images to my page alongside fan interaction and giveaways.
I would say when it comes to social media presence, post, find that pocket you fit in, and don’t get discouraged or compare yourself to other brands. There are plenty of people in this world willing to support you.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn would be even I share the same blood as you, grew up with you, work with you, served with you that doesn’t mean you have an obligation to support me. I used to get upset until I learned that’s not the case and the people who are more likely to support me are strangers.
We get wrapped up in why those who know you don’t support instead of focusing on those who do. This was a lesson I went back and forth with until I started focusing on my true supporters.
