We were lucky to catch up with Stephanie Purcell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
I’m seeing a return to nature, with lots of plant inspired designs either in wallpaper or fabrics and the inclusion of lots of live greenery in homes. There is also more emphasis on out door living spaces now, with upscale out door furniture and accessories.
The grandmillenial style that we first started seeing last year is also becoming more popular with vintage styles and patterns being mixed in with contemporary ideas. It gives a sense of glamour with lots of fun details like, fringe, velvet, piping and floral wallpapers on display.
Multi-Use spaces have, unsurprisingly, continued to be on the rise. While libraries and home offices were seeing a surge in popularity, we are now also seeing a rise in homework rooms and multi-purposes rooms like offices/gyms or guest rooms/craft space.

Stephanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
A freelance producer by day working in film, TV and international sports; I started doing interior design as a fun, artistic side venture while pairing with my husband’s real estate investment business. This gave me the perfect opportunity to practice my design skills and experiment with style. I made some swoon worthy design mistakes along the way, but since then I have learned A LOT.
I believe that design shouldn’t only be for the elite so I started offering online design services at a fraction of the the cost!
Everyone deserves a home they love!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Getting to bring your ideas to life. There is something so fun and freeing about getting to create something brand new, that no one has seen before and making it into reality. Especially when you are working with a client and you get to know them and their style and then work on something you might have never done before. I think it opens you up to more ideas and more creative thinking.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I started I was just doing design for my husband and our Airbnbs. Once that started taking off and I discovered I liked design and used my own savings to go to design school. From there I already knew a lot of technical programs involved and with the majority of my work being on line, I did not need a lot of overhead for rent or equipment. My biggest expenses now are in marketing, which I fund largely from any profits I make.
