We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joseph Capalbo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joseph below.
Joseph, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Since success has a different meaning for everyone, the first step is to define what the big picture looks like to you. From there, you can break your goals down into bite-size tasks. Giving your craft the time it needs is always the foundation for your journey. I’m grateful to have learned music at a young age, so I was progressing toward my big goal without even knowing it.
Actively reaching out to mentors and peers to seek advice for growth in your craft is one of the best ways to overcome the plateaus that you might eventually run into. You might develop long-lasting relationships with some of them, and mutually benefit from each other in the future. Having a supportive community around you will streamline your growth much more effectively than trying to do everything on your own.
Put yourself out there and accept the results, whether you’re met with approval or rejection. Rejection will make you even stronger at what you do. Develop a mindset of longevity around your goals so that you can also tend to your mental and physical health.
Gratitude for my accomplishments and the mere fact that I’m able to do my skill is what keeps me going. I think the key ingredients to success are practicing patience and enjoying the journey itself.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Joseph and I’m a professional songwriter and music producer. I help musicians craft their songs, work with songwriters to get their tracks ready for release, and create custom music for brands and individuals.
I started playing guitar when I was 11 years old. I instantly became obsessed and was playing seven to eight hours a day. That obsession drove me to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where I fine-tuned my musical craft. In 2015, I started writing music for film and TV, and my music was placed on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Since then, my music has been placed on hundreds of TV shows and used in major brand campaigns, the most recent being Coca-Cola.
If you’re a musician, songwriter, or music producer who wants to get your music licensed for TV, movies, video games, ads, or any visual media, please connect with me so we can elevate each other. If you’re a brand or personal entity that needs custom music for advertising or social media, please connect with me through my social media links.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Having a professional career in the music industry isn’t always what it’s glammed up to be; it comes with a lot of rejection. Whether you can’t get booked at your favorite local venue or your dream record label isn’t giving you the time of day, rejection is a normal part of the process for musicians.
It took me many years to craft my skills of playing guitar, writing songs, producing them, and pitching them to get where I am today. That makes rejection even harder — but it builds a thick skin that allows me to push forward without the fear of rejection anymore.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media has been my avenue to give back to my followers. I strive to share entertaining content about crafting songs, producing them, and preparing for success. I make genuine connections with my audience and have made authentic friendships from it. I work to provide value for my audience rather than the other way around. If you have a minute, I’d love for you to follow me on my social media accounts so we can connect and make this shared journey to success an enjoyable one.
