Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephanie Kemp. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stephanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
When I was in Graduate School at MTSU studying Exercise Science and Human Performance, I took a class called Complimentary & Alternative Therapies. I honestly had no idea what I was getting into. I just needed another elective. It was that class that gave me my “ah-ha” moment. I began learning the energy body along with the physical body. I was approved an internship with Virginia Harper who at the time owned the Ki of Life Learning Center. My entire perspective of health and quality care changed in that year. She allowed me to be hands on with her inpatient and outpatient clients. I learned more about using food as medicine, about natural home remedies, and about bringing a team of people together in order to help clients heal. I will never forget crying after hearing testimonial. People were coming in as a last resort. Their doctors had given up on them, so we took them in and helped their healing using food, energy work, and movement. That internship was the beginning of my path to wellness. I continued working with Virginia, as well as creating my own programs. I attended the Strengthening Health Institute where I became a certified Macrobiotic Coach. This was all during a time when I was stressed to the max, and western docs told me I was infertile and could probably never carry a baby full term. I promise you if it weren’t for the internship and education that I continued in Alternative Therapy, I may have believed that I was infertile. Fast forward to today. We have 3 thriving children with the help of my Complimentary & Alternative Health Care team.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been working in the Fitness & Wellness Industry since 2006. I started my career as an Exercise Physiologist in Cardiac Rehab, but later decided to take a leap of faith and work for myself as a Holistic Personal Trainer. I was able to create programs for all sorts of individuals. With my background in alternative therapy, I could provide a more personalized program for their specific needs. I incorporate food for healing and I work to eliminate toxins, which are the leading cause of inflammation. I also use sound therapy, breathwork, and stretching at the end of sessions. Over the years I have continued my education by adding flower essence, herbs, breath work, sound therapy, and so much more. Not only do I work 1 on 1 with clients, but I also work online with group Lifestyle Transformation Programs. I coach people who are stuck in a chronic health state who feel that they have tried everything. Most of the time people are coming to me for weight loss, low energy, constant anxious feeling or low drive. We always start with mindset and a new perspective of food and diet. I have worked with all levels of diseases using nutrients, herbs, home remedies, movement, and mindset. My goal is to help people create more alignment in their bodies by implementing an individualized holistic approach to wellness. What I really want people to understand is that the body can begin the healing process when it is given the right tools. There is not one specific protocol to make this happen. Understanding your body, your past traumas, and your current lifestyle will map out the healing journey for yourself.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think that staying true to your morals and values is key to succeeding in the Wellness Industry. It can be easy to get sucked into the next big “thing” in health. When I go back to my roots and to what I understand about health and healing, I ask myself if this makes sense. Do I trust the person teaching this method? I also think that the Wellness Industry is being bombarded with influencers on social media which can give professionals like me “Imposter Syndrome.” I believe daily Personal Development is the key to success and allows me to stay true to my morals and values.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Just one?! I have had many lessons to unlearn. I think the most important lesson for me to unlearn has been about not speaking up during decision making time. I used to think that if I spoke up when I disagreed with a business decision I was going to either lose a partner or hurt someone’s feelings. Over the years I have run Holistic Wellness Retreats. I have partnered with my friend, Raquel Wynn to host these retreats in Loma Partida, Panama. Raquel lives in Loma. I have learned that the more we discuss how we are feeling about our business decisions our retreats get better. This leads me to another lesson to unlearn. Stop trying to do everything yourself. Finding a partner or team that you can trust and who is on the same page as you and your mission is important to building a dynamic successful business.
