Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stamaur Mitchell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stamaur, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One of the biggest risk I have ever taken in my career is moving out of the DMV. A lot of people are scared to branch out, but me, I realized that I had hit my peak. I wanted to do more and also challenge myself. So, I moved to LA November of 2019. I had already built some connects from doing standup comedy shows which gave me the confidence to want to live out here. I knew it was not going to be easy, but I was not looking for easy. I also knew that most of my comic idols left their hometown and got their big break!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Stamaur Mitchell, but I got by Pap ( my boy was joanin on me back in the day and said I look like Papoose the rapper lol ). I started doing comedy 11 years ago. I had always had a love for standup comedy. I grew up watching comedians like Bernie Mac, Dave Chappelle, Martin Lawrence, etc. I have always been the funny guy and made people laugh organically. I feel like the one thing that sets me apart from my peers is my ability to adapt to any type of crowd. From the urban crowds, to the blue collar crowds, I feel that I can make anybody laugh! One of the main things that I am proud of is being able to channel my comedy side, but also being able to unleash my actor side as well. It’s like seeing 2 different people.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my social media presence by being consistent AND original. I started on vine, then transitioned to twitter. This was back when you couldn’t even post videos on IG lol. I think the hardest part was getting past watching myself on video. It was jii like cringey at first because I was new to making content. But once I got used to it, thats all she wrote. My advice to someone starting out would be to focus on being consistent. Don’t be that person that post every 20 business days. Post everyday or atleast every other day. The consistency is going to lead to building your following every time.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I feel like society needs to stop trolling people. That has been one of the biggest downfalls of social media. It’s cool to give an honest, professional opinion, but all that talking negative and down on creatives needs to stop.
