We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sora Penfold. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sora below.
Alright, Sora thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
In the beginning, my content creation journey was fueled by pure passion and a lot of trial and error! Everything changed when I began connecting with fellow creators; exchanging advice and experimenting with different setups really allowed me to find my rhythm. On the voice acting side, my background as a ‘theatre kid’ was my secret weapon. Having that foundational acting training was vital, though I had to learn the specific nuances of translating those skills to the microphone. I took specialized classes focused on vocal believability and emotional honesty, which helped me bridge the gap between the stage and the studio.
If I were starting from scratch today, I would dive into formal acting classes immediately and start vlogging right away to get comfortable behind the lens. I’d also place a much higher priority on networking from day one. Building a community of peers in both the streaming and voice-over fields is the fastest way to learn. I’d also remind myself of the advice I live by now: ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.’ Consistency is the engine of growth. If you keep improving your craft and your content every single day, the results will follow!
A natural talent for storytelling is at the heart of everything I do. It’s actually led me to become the Head Writer for Aether Arts LLC, where we are currently developing an incredible indie anime! Beyond the writing, I think my sense of humor and empathy have been my most essential tools. Whether I’m connecting with an audience on a stream or breathing life into a character in the booth, being able to find the heart—and the fun—in a moment is what makes the work stand out.
The primary hurdles were largely resources—both time and budget. Investing in a high-end setup and specialized voice acting workshops can be a significant financial commitment. Navigating those ‘startup’ costs while trying to gain more advanced training was a challenge, but it also forced me to be creative and resourceful with what I had, which ultimately made me a more versatile artist.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
About Sora: The Storyteller Behind the Mic and the Screen
The Journey to the Mic
My path into the creative world has always been driven by a singular passion: storytelling. I grew up as a “theatre kid,” finding my voice on the stage and learning the foundational acting skills that I now bring into the recording booth every day. While my career as a Content Creator began with a “wing it and learn” mentality, it quickly evolved into something much deeper. By connecting with fellow artists and leaning into my background in performance, I transitioned into professional Voice Acting and scriptwriting, eventually becoming one of the head writers for Aether Arts Studios LLC.
Creative Services & Destiny Island Visuals
Today, my work lives at the intersection of audio and visual storytelling. Through my Etsy shop, Destiny Island Visuals, I provide high-quality digital assets designed specifically for streamers. I understand the “friction” of starting a channel, so I solve that problem for my clients by creating the “shimmering” visuals—overlays, alerts, and graphics—that help them look professional from day one.
As a professional Voice Actor, I offer versatile vocal services ranging from deep, character-driven performances for indie dramas to high-energy commercial reads. Whether I’m voicing a strategist like Athena or a haunted soul in a Celtic lament, my goal is always to provide a performance that is believable, honest, and deeply felt.
What Sets Me Apart
What truly sets my brand apart is the “Full-Circle” creative vision I bring to every project. I don’t just record lines or design assets; I understand the narrative architecture behind them. As the Head Writer for an upcoming indie anime, I know how to look at a script from the inside out. My clients don’t just get a voice or a graphic—they get a creative partner who understands the rhythm of a story and the heartbeat of a community.
Mission and Pride
I am most proud of the growth I’ve achieved in such a short time—from launching Aether Arts Studios LLC to mapping out deep, mythological concept albums like Legends of Olympus and Celtic Ties. My brand is built on empathy, humor, and the belief that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
To my followers and potential clients, I want you to know this: My work is a connection between professional quality and authentic heart. Whether you are looking for the perfect voice for your next protagonist or the visual good vibe that will define your stream, I am here to help you turn your creative dreams into a legacy.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My journey actually began with a dream of Broadway. My foundational training was rooted in classical theater, specifically through a Shakespearean intensive where I studied Elizabethan history and performance. My first role as Ursula in The Comedy of Errors sparked a fire in me; I was hooked on the magic of performance. That passion followed me through high school, where I joined elite vocal ensembles like Vocal Motion and Bella Voce, and performed in productions like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
However, as many performers know, the theater industry is incredibly competitive. When I hit a plateau in landing stage roles, I realized I needed a new outlet for my creative energy. I pivoted to the digital space, becoming a content creator on YouTube, TikTok, and Twitch. While I loved the community I was building, there was still a ‘missing piece’—that specific spark that only comes from acting.
The turning point came at FanX when I had the opportunity to meet legendary voice actress Cristina Vee. I’ve been able to mimic voices and perform impressions for as long as I can remember, so I showed her my impression of her character, Hawk, from The Seven Deadly Sins. She was genuinely shocked that I hadn’t had formal vocal training yet and told me directly: ‘You need to get into voice acting as soon as possible; the industry needs people like you.’
That was the validation I needed to pivot one more time—into the world of professional VO. Today, I’ve translated those years of musical and theatrical training into a thriving career. I’m incredibly proud to have debuted as Sabrina Finch in the audio drama Lessons Learned, on Spotify, and I have two other exciting roles currently in production that I can’t wait to share soon!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
At the core of my creative journey is a dual mission: to reach the pinnacle of professional voice performance and to pave a way for underrepresented voices in the industry.
My professional north stars have always been performers like Ray Chase and Haley Joel Osment. Their ability to bring depth, nuance, and longevity to iconic franchises—from the emotional complexity of Final Fantasy to the legendary legacy of Kingdom Hearts—is the standard I strive for every day. My ultimate goal is to contribute my voice to the next generation of AAA gaming and high-profile Anime, and the dream of collaborating with my inspirations on a project of that scale is a massive driver for my growth as a performer.
However, my journey is about more than just personal accolades. As a disabled, Pagan, and Queer creator, I am acutely aware of the barriers that exist in these industries. For a long time, it felt like there wasn’t a clear path for people who share my intersections of identity. My mission is to change that narrative. I want to be a visible, inspiring influence for my community, demonstrating that your background and your challenges do not define your potential.
I want to show other creators—especially those who feel sidelined by the industry—that it is possible to build your own legacy. By being a founding member of Aether Arts Studios LLC and producing my own narrative works like Mythos Rising, I am proving that we don’t have to wait for a seat at the table; we can build our own. My mission is to show everyone that no matter who you are or where you come from, you can achieve your dreams if you keep moving forward with resilience and heart.
