Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sofia Hauser. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sofia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
To date, the project that I am most proud of is my debut album that I released last year, Blame It on My Heart. It took six years to piece together, from the songs that I wrote by myself on my bedroom floor about wishing I missed my hometown, to the songs that I crafted at my first co-writing session of ideas I didn’t know how to articulate in a song, my debut album is made up of stories from beginning the album process to the end of that season of that time in my life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born in Missoula, Montana and raised in Gig Harbor, Washington where my love for singing began when I took singing lessons at eight years old. From there I sang around my hometown, at county fairs, in theaters, and wherever else I could to be on stage. My interests were mostly in Country music, covering Kellie Pickler, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, among others.
During my high school years I participated in choir and musical theater. After high school, I went down to Los Angeles with a producer from my hometown who introduced me to Atlantic Records and Universal Music to sing Pop/R&B. But I ultimately decided I wanted to pursue Country music and moved to Tennessee.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In the age of streaming there is so much more that you can do to support an artists career, such as sharing their music with your friends or posting it online. So much of an artists life and content is online nowadays, so interacting with their videos or posts is a big help too. It sounds silly, but leaving a comment or two can help to boost an artists social media engagement, which is what labels want to see. You can also come to their live shows or writer’s rounds and show support for them that way, as well as buying their merchandise.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Sometimes when I’m writing a song, I feel like it may not be a song for me but for someone else. It’s so cool to sing those songs at writer’s rounds and hear from fellow artists or people in the crowd that it’s like that song was written for them. It’s a great reminder that it’s not all about me and the songs that I want to write. A lot of times it’s about telling a story that someone else needs to hear. And I love to write all kinds of stories and songs, no matter who they are for.
