We recently connected with Socorro Herrera and have shared our conversation below.
Socorro , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I’ve taken was starting my business during the pandemic. I opened up a women’s only small group training classes from my home garage.
Didn’t think it would get too far with a lot of people getting sick and/or loosing their main source of income.
But fortunately it did successfully succeed and here I am 3.5 years later, still the proud owner of Lets Get Waisted.

Socorro , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well I got into my personal fitness journey a little over 5 years ago, soon after started training and coming up with my own routines. When the pandemic hit I started posting free workouts on Facebook and also would go LIVE and workout for those who could no longer afford any zoom fitness classes etc. Once the state lifted the Covid restrictions, I decided to open up small group training classes from my garage at a very low cost to help those out who have lost their main form of income.
I did that for about two years, had about 6-7 classes Monday thru Sunday! After my second year I went thru quite a loss and took a step back and decided to raise my prices, set down some rules and cut down on the number of classes and days I was training. Life hit me hard but I didn’t want to quit and leave my current clients.
I celebrated my third year of business in my home garage but I can gladly say I will be celebrating my 4th year at my NEW location in the infamous Redemption Square.
It is a very scary yet surreal feeling that I was able to do this.
I tell my clients to not be afraid and do things that might be difficult or uncomfortable and see what they’re truly capable of…..I’m practicing what I preach and stepping out onto bigger and better things doing what I enjoy most.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Be authentic to yourself and towards your clients. That simple.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Definitely. I love what I do.
Not only do I help others stay accountable and push them towards achieving a goal, but it also helps me with my personal fitness goals as well.
