Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Skyler Montoya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Skyler thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Yes, I like to think that I’m happier as a creative than at your normal 9 to 5 job. Especially now, since I’ve had my daughter. It’s nice being home with her all day and still having work to do if I want (I’m not writing full time).
Sometimes I do think about having a regular job, yes. Especially when it comes to money. My husband is the breadwinner, and works to provide for me and our daughter. Part of me wishes I could work too to help out.
But then I think of my daughter, and how lucky I am that my husband makes enough for me to stay home with her. I know she needs me, and loves that I’m always around. And it gives me so much free time to work on my writing and advertising myself as an author. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Skyler, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course. I am a 26 year old woman, married, a Christian, and now a new mom to a 5 month old baby.
I am a creative writer. I primarily write fantasy, but I plan on branching out into other genres eventually.
I was extremely lucky to meet an editor for a publishing company back in 2021 (EireneBros Publishing), through a get together my church was having. I pitched her the book idea I had, and she loved it! Now here I am, 5 years later, with two (almost 3) books and 1 short story published!
It’s a trilogy, centered around a young girl who can shapeshift into a variety of different animals. Her purpose? To kill the devil. It’s a coming of age story, along with themes of trying to find yourself after moments of failure/distress. If you’re interested, it’s called: Angel by S N Montoya.
Something that sets me apart from other writers is my love for God/Jesus. You will never see a smut book from me, nor any vulgar/inappropriate themes. Just some clean, intriguing, and cliffhanger stories.
I would say the thing I’m most proud of (in relevance to creative works) is publishing my first book. I honestly never thought I was good enough to get published, and originally just wrote the story for fun. It was so surreal to hold the first copy in my hands, even more so to make my first sales. Like…people actually wanted to buy and read MY books?? So cool.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Phew, this one might be controversial for some. But honestly? Get rid of AI. Buy from artists again. AI is going to drown out all creativity if we aren’t careful.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Oh yes, there is. My daughter.
It may sound silly, but I want to have something to make her proud of her mom when she grows up.
So my goal? Keep writing. Keep meeting people, growing my name. Spreading my stories. And maybe someday, have my author name become “famous”.
But honestly, if she is proud of me that’s all that matters.
