We were lucky to catch up with Skylar Caitlin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Skylar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have any key partners or vendors – if so, how’d you find them and start working with them?
As a wedding planner, your work is really only ever as good as the work of those you partner with. We ideate and work magic with logistics, but it requires a really strong wedding day team of vendors to actually pull off an event. It’s not unlike being a general contractor. What I’ve learned is that I need a team of people who are invested in the total event – not just their contribution. My best vendor partners want to join in on production meetings, are open to feedback (and also give good feedback), and are a “we over me” mentality.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Skylar, your new planning partner. My approach allows for your personalities and my expertise to meld and create an unforgettable wedding.
As your planner my goal is to design a reception where you feel relaxed, where you feel celebrated, and that makes your guests say “That was so them!” My combination of practicality and collaboration allows for a memorable guest experience and tells your love story. I love designing thoughtful spaces with form and function in each wedding I do. My signature style of curating intentional design elements with a clean, chic aesthetic results in a personal, refined event. But make no mistake – I still know how to throw a good party. The quality of the dance floor experience and open bar are often priority No. 1 for my couples and I love to deliver.
With over 100 weddings under my belt, I help my couples feel more at ease and excited about their wedding day by streamlining the planning process, helping them to refine their design vision, and guiding them each step of the way. My work has been published on a number of national blogs and magazines including The Knot, Bridal Guide, and Brides of Houston.
With my expertise and your story, we can make your wedding a standout celebration.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
For me it’s a sweet spot of referrals and Google. They say it takes 7 times for someone to see your name before they inquire, but those are the two most common responses on our “How did you find me” survey.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
This is something I’ve been learning a lot about over the past few years. I wish I could say it’s some ephemeral yet intellectual reason, but I’ve learned that fulfillment for me requires the completion of a project.
As you can imagine, that’s made the last two years as an event planner challenging to say the least. But it’s also brought about some ideas on how to improve my services for myself and my couples. Like on-location planning days, for example, where I travel to their destination wedding location with them and we host a packed-full day of meetings, planning discussions, and meals together. It’s practical and has improved my client experience, but it’s also given me more spots of completion because this big project within a bigger project is complete.
