We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Silas Mwenda a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Silas , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was in my first year in high school back in Africa when i got this inner conviction to pursue my artistic path professionally but it was a bit challenging because I just started school and it was hard to balance between the two.Resources were limited as well. The worst part was not many creatives got sustainable returns from their work so it was hard to convince my parents that my creative career would comfortably provide for my life and future.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes,My main goal and mission is to share joy with my fellow humans.Wether am on stage acting or singing my main objective is reach out to that audience regardless of the medium and inspire them positively.Nothing beats that.Life is not an easy thing. We live in a world where bad news are the order of the day, frustration, heartbreak ,mental Health issues.I believe arts reaches the deepest part of human soul more than anything.Arts goes beyond our skin color, languages, race and boundaries. Some people do it for Oscars,Grammies and awards ceremonies..am not saying it’s a bad thing to win awards but it’s not my motivation. To me it’s beyond that.Touching peoples live with my creative work is what makes me feel alive.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the peace and joy it brings to me personally. When writing a song,in studio, performing live on stage ,performing in a play, or being in someone else shows shooting a film makes me feel so liberated diving deep into the creative process and character which in return brings forth immeasurable healing in my heart.Joy,fun and healing starts with me first before it spreads to others .It’s beyond words. To me my life is service to humanity and my creativity life serves that so perfectly. It’s so exhilarating.
