Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shyanne Queen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shyanne, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
When I first started in real estate, it was just me—no team, no assistants—just a solo agent working hard to build something from the ground up. I wasn’t part of a real estate team, but I always knew I wanted to lead one of my own someday. I finally realized that vision this August when I launched my real estate team.
Currently, I have one full-time agent on board and three more who are finishing up their pre-licensing courses. They’ll soon be licensed and working with me full-time. As a team leader, the responsibility shifts from focusing solely on your own success to ensuring that your agents thrive. You’re responsible for training them, helping them grow into the best versions of themselves, and equipping them to produce sales while educating their clients on the current market.
Building a team comes with its challenges—especially being available to your agents and fostering an environment where they can truly flourish. I’ve found that creating a space where everyone feels safe and comfortable is essential. Our office is like our home, it’s a judgment-free zone where people can be themselves. This has been key to our success.
When it comes to recruiting, I haven’t faced too many challenges. In fact, many agents have reached out to me because they don’t feel like they fit in at their current brokerages and are looking for a change. That said, I’ve been deliberate about how I add new people to the team. I want those passionate about real estate, especially those new to the industry, to finish their coursework before jumping in.
Starting out, I learned a lot by observing the mistakes and successes of other team leads. I have friends in the industry who have more experience running a team, and seeing how they handled things taught me invaluable lessons about leadership and growth.
If I were starting today, I wouldn’t change much except maybe leaning on my network a little more from the beginning. It’s been crucial to surround myself with people who not only believe in my vision but are also excited to help build it.

Shyanne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My passion for real estate began at a young age, influenced by my family. Growing up, my dad, uncle, and grandpa were all involved in real estate, from building homes to investing. Their influence sparked my early interest, and although I initially studied psychology in college, real estate was always on my mind. I took on a part-time role as a showing assistant, and that experience solidified my decision to pursue a full-time career in real estate after completing my master’s degree.
I’ve been a licensed realtor since 2019, serving clients across West Michigan and beyond. Recently, I took a significant step in my career by completing my Michigan broker’s education, passing the exam, and establishing my own team—Shyanne Queen Real Estate (SQRE). Currently, I have one full-time agent on board, with three more working toward completing their pre-licensing courses.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to education. I believe that being an educated realtor is the key to success, and I make it a priority to ensure my team is well-trained and always learning. I also take pride in educating clients, especially first-time homebuyers, because I believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience homeownership. I use my social media platforms, particularly Instagram (@shyannesoldit), to share real estate tips and market insights, making information accessible to anyone who follows me.
In addition to my commitment to education, I am deeply passionate about diversity and inclusion. I believe everyone, regardless of their background, should have access to the opportunities real estate provides. I pride my team on fostering an inclusive environment, where every client feels respected and valued. We aim to create lasting relationships with our clients, providing them with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions.
Overall, I’m most proud of the culture we’re building at SQRE. We’re not just about transactions. We’re about making a meaningful difference in our clients’ lives and in our community. I look forward to continuing to grow my business, helping people achieve their real estate goals, and educating the next generation of real estate professionals.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene has had a profound influence on how I approach and run my business. The book provided me with key strategies to navigate the complexities of the real estate industry, especially as I transitioned from a solo agent to building my own team.
One of the laws that deeply resonated with me is “Plan All the Way to the End.” Real estate is an industry where planning and foresight are crucial. This law reinforced the importance of not only setting long-term goals, but also anticipating obstacles and being prepared to pivot when necessary. It’s something I apply both in my personal development and in guiding my agents. I always encourage my team to think ahead and consider all possibilities before making decisions—whether it’s negotiating deals or planning their career paths.
Another law that shaped my business approach is “Create an Air of Mystery.” In real estate, it’s important to remain a step ahead of competitors and not reveal all your strategies at once. By staying slightly elusive, it sparks curiosity and keeps others intrigued, which is particularly valuable when building relationships and negotiating deals. This helps me maintain an edge while engaging with potential clients and other industry professionals.
“Make Others Depend on You” is another key principle I’ve applied. As a team leader, I believe in providing immense value to my agents, making sure they see me as a resource for their growth. I provide training, market insights, and mentorship, ensuring they know they have someone to rely on. This creates a strong foundation of loyalty and collaboration within the team.
Finally, “Recreate Yourself” has been pivotal as I’ve grown in my career. I started as a single agent, but through constant learning and reinvention, I’ve evolved into a team leader and now a soon-to-be associate broker. Greene’s insights on self-reinvention have reminded me that personal growth is an ongoing journey. I continually refine my leadership skills and adapt to new market trends, ensuring that my business remains dynamic and forward-thinking.
Ultimately, The 48 Laws of Power has taught me how to think strategically, navigate competition, and cultivate strong relationships with clients and team members. It’s been a guiding force in my journey from agent to entrepreneur.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media has been my best source of leads because it has allowed me to build authentic, lasting relationships with my audience over time. By sharing educational real estate tips and providing valuable insights, I’ve positioned myself as a trusted expert in the industry. Through consistent and transparent content, people have watched me grow over the past six years, not just as a real estate agent but also as a thought leader within my community. This has naturally built a strong sense of trust and credibility.
I’ve cultivated a large following on platforms like Instagram (@shyannesoldit), where I engage with potential clients daily, offering them free, accessible knowledge on the home buying and selling process. By educating my audience, I’m not only empowering them but also showcasing my expertise in real estate. This creates a natural pipeline of leads, as people turn to me when they’re ready to buy or sell, knowing that I have both the knowledge and experience to guide them.
Additionally, being a well-known influencer in my community helps amplify my reach. People are drawn to work with someone they feel connected to and trust, and social media allows me to maintain that connection on a large scale. By being active and authentic online, I stay top of mind for my followers, many of whom have witnessed my journey in the industry and feel confident in my abilities.
Social media also allows for personal interaction, which strengthens my relationships with clients. I engage with followers directly, answer questions, and offer personalized advice, creating a sense of accessibility that fosters loyalty. This blend of education, trust, and personal connection is why social media has been such a powerful lead generation tool for my business.
