We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shonmarra “miss By-polar” a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ShonMarra, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I have come to realize that each day I am choosing to take a risk by relying on myself to provide for my family, manage HR and accounting for my business, and act as my own marketing team. I am currently taking a chance by living solely off my business, which means I may not always be able to give all my money to it. There are times when I have to risk my sleep and happiness in order to pursue my vision of creating passive income and generational wealth through my business. It requires a high level of focus and discipline to avoid taking risks that could result in losing everything. I often question the path I have chosen and the sacrifices I make daily in order to succeed. However, I am constantly reminded that my mission is greater than the risks I face each day.

I am ShonMarra Glover, better known as Miss.BY-POLAR. I am a dedicated woman who has taken risks to establish my name and legacy. As the owner of BY-POLAR Lifestyle Brand, I provide a range of services including bartendering, mixology classes, beauty services, and custom clothing. I am expanding my business to offer even more to my customers.
BY-POLAR is not just a brand; it represents the journey of personal growth. My lifestyle brand aims to transform mental health into fashion while providing services that promote self-love.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I learned that you cannot expect others to be like you. Just because people are around you does not mean they support or have good intentions for you. In 2024, I have learned valuable life lessons that have improved my business and work life. I now focus on observing people’s actions rather than listening to their words. I have learned to love, respect, and value others without judging them, as not everyone has the same background. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals is crucial for growth. This year, I have pushed myself to reach my full potential by being more selective about the company I keep and striving for more in my brand.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I have always found joy in creating drinks and preparing food, as I discovered at a young age that it was a great way to connect with people. This year, I incorporated a new service into my lifestyle brand as a side hustle to generate extra income to support and grow my business. In addition to providing bartender services, I now offer mixology classes, cater events, and host parties. I even have ladies’ nights where guests can enjoy pampering and drinks. I plan to expand my business further, as I have learned that turning your talents into a business can lead to profitability and allow you to build a brand and generational wealth while pursuing your passion without feeling like you are constantly hustling.
